This is my first experience with Celldweller, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Primarily instrumental, this sounds like Mortal Kombat meets Pig meets Marilyn Manson from the soundtrack to "Resident Evil".
The only song featuring lyrics (aside from the remixes of the same track) is 'Birthright'. The song is decent and a definite sing-along, but not Klayton's strongest effort. Several of the accompanying tracks are short in length and sound as though they were written for a video game. I've dabbled in electronica myself, and it's not that difficult to layer several voices into a single track. When you don't really have a 4-minute song, a few layered voices can make up a 1:30 filler worth listening to yet isn't terribly deep or memorable. There are a handfulof these on "Soundtrack for the Voices in my Head", but that doesn't ruin the album the way it would if the entire record were made up of 1:30 filler tracks. Instead, they seem to fill the gap and solidify the flow of the album. I wouldn't call it a 'concept' album, but Klayton is on the right track (pun intended). Because this record is written like a heavy-metal movie score (another reference to the similarities of Manson's work on "Resident Evil") there is a certain feel the album captures from the angry opener "Through the Gates" to the melancholy and reflective "La Puerta Del Diablo". Ignore the 'bonus tracks' as these are rehashed remixes of "birthright" and really don't belong on the record. This will never be a 'favorite' album, but it's very enjoyable with a few tracks meriting special attention. "Solaris" was my inspiration to give Celldweller a try in the first place and has a traditional Paul Oakenfold meets NIN feel to it. "The Angel of 10" is pure genius and feels like 5 beers on a Friday night. "Outland" is perhaps the most complex song on the album and will wear you down. Finally, "La Puerta Del Diablo" is a freakishly creepy track that sounds like AP2 meets Brad Fiedel's "Terminator 2" score. "Soundtrack" is not something that would really fit in at a party simply because it deserves more respect than background music. It's not the most original music you'll ever hear (hence the number of comparisons mentioned above) but it'll hold your attention in a good way. 4 stars.

Having followed the career of Klayton Scott through his previous and current incarnations has once again paid off. The sheer creativity and inventiveness of his melodies and rhythm continue to astound me.
Klayton has chosen with this disc to issue a soundtrack geared album. It songs contain some of the elements you may be able to recognize from his previous endeavors and still remain very fresh and new. To put it simply, This disc is a tremendous portfolio of what Klayton could bring to the table in negotiating for a big-distribution, multimedia-project movie or game soundtrack. The only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 stars, instead of 5, is the fact that these are soundtrack pieces which, though I can imagine/visualize the game, movies and show scenes which could be created to fit the sounds, simply is without external connections which completes a score or soundtrack. I sincerely hope this collection would lead Klayton to landing a contract to produce for a specific product, and I know Birthright has been licensed. I just don't feel many of todays games are in sync with many of the nuances Klayton has produced here. Until Klayton has secured such a deal, I'll be rocking out to his other works.

This will give fans a slight fix till the "real" new CD comes out ! There is very little vocals, its more or less a sound track, hence the title. Good music by a great (unknown to most) band.
