Rockin' album with a nice mixture of songs,
By Karin (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews

These talented artists share a mixture of covers and original tunes; folk and blues; thought-provoking and playful. My favorites are A Much Better View of the Moon (for endless optimism) and Red Kimono (also optimistic, actually, but also some nice wordplay). Also try Christina Muir (one of the band members) in her solo album, Feet First, which is still fun yet a little more contemplative in its tone.

Wonderful lyrics and delightful music,

Heard this record this past summer at a friend's house (she is a wonderful musician herself who happens to know one of the performers of the "Hot Soup" group). I was totally enchanted by the song "Waiting" - Will you know right away who or what is "waiting"??? And once I got my own record, most of the other songs started growing on me, and everyone I introduce this record to gets as hooked on it as I am now!

The Hot Soup mix continues to evolve. Sort of a cross between The Chenille Sisters and Herdman, Hills and Mangsen, Hot Soup is usually classified as "folk." But that doesn't do justice to the breadth and depth of the material on this, their second album. Especially nice here are "A Much Better View of the Moon" and "Sunrise on Carawan Hill," two beautifully rendered ballads. The album also gives a hint of the silly side they demonstrate in performance with a parody of a classic Tom Paxton song. The album is a good introduction to a talented group of solo artists who combine to make magic. Enjoy the album and then go see them live.

I enjoy this folk album, which actually is a blend of folk, blues, honkey-tonk... a great blend of voices, and real variety. You can catch sound outtakes on their website.

I'm addicted to Hot Soup!,

The luscious harmonies and sophisticated lyrics of "Soup Happens!" are as addictive as chocolate. I especially like the Hot Soup themesong and "Two Fine Friends," but the whole album is fun. I played it over and over when we first got it, and only reluctantly put myself on a diet after awhile, but I still nibble. Can't help myself.

I have enjoyed Hot Soup for many years. Since I no longer get to see them live, I especially enjoy it when they release a new album

Hot Soup is a great group! I had a chance to hear them at the first concert to introduce their new record "Soup Happens". Entertaining, singable and every song a winner.
