5.0 out of 5 stars Soup On Ice, January 5, 2011
This review is from: Soup on Ice (Paperback)
Soup on Ice by Robert Newton Peck is one of the
most wonderful Christmas stories. You will laugh
and get misty eyed, both. A really good message
and so well written.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Was Great, February 15, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Soup on Ice (Paperback)
I thought that Soup on Ice was a good book but there were some parts that got really boring. But overall I liked the book. I thought the beggining was good, middle was boring, and the end was fun. I liked the beggining when Soup made Rob shovel and was acting like he was a shoveling coach. The middle was kind of boring but I liked when they sang songs together. I liked the end when Soup, Rob, and Mr.Dubinski were on the sleigh. I liked it when they ran in to the Christmas tree, I thought that was funny. This book is good and it's one of those you don't want to put it down. I liked this book and would recomand it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Ture Christmas Classic, December 27, 2009
This review is from: Soup on Ice (Paperback)
"Soup on Ice" deserves to be recognized as a Christmas classic. It's a great injustice that so few people know about this book, and a greater injustice that it's currently out of print. I've read a multitude of Children's Christmas books, and Soup on Ice ranks among my top three books in the genre.

When I first picked up "Soup on Ice," I wasn't expecting much; it looked like a typical chapter book. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing. In some ways, the story is similar to that other Christmas classic, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." The plot involves a boy named Robert (the narrator and author) and his friend Soup trying to convince the meanest man in town to play Santa Claus in the annual tree lighting ceremony. Along the way, the boys plot to get Buck Jones BB Guns, shovel snow (Tom Sawyer style), take more than one ride down the "Double Zoomer," and in the end, bring holiday cheer to an impoverished family. The 1930's Vermont setting is great, and brings to mind scenes from "A Christmas Story." The writing is very comedic, yet the story is also very touching, proving that this is a book that can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike. If you like the book "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," or the movie "A Christmas Story," then "Soup on Ice" is for you.
