5.0 out of 5 stars All-time funniest book!, September 20, 2010

This review is from: Soup in the Saddle (Paperback)
I read it, year after year, to my kids' classes in school and it is always a hit! Wish it were easier and cheaper to come by, however, as mine has gone missing after twenty-something years of ownership!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Saddle You Up., February 19, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Soup in the Saddle (Paperback)
This book will saddle you up. It starts out with two characters who are best friends named Rob and Soup. Soup is a trouble maker but Rob is the good guy. The tragedy is is that the Govener's evil cousin might fire Miss Kelly who is their teacher. They make a plan to try to keep her in the school. If you like adventures this book will take you away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Soup in the Saddle Review, April 30, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Soup in the Saddle (Paperback)
Soup in the Saddle
By
Robert Newton Peck

Soup in the Saddle is about two boys . One is named Soup and the other is named Rob. Soup is a brainy, brave, trouble -maker, while Rob is also brainy, but he is quieter, and less sure of himself. Soup and Rob live in a small, farm town in Vermont.
The story begins with the boys finding a cowboy saddle in the neighbor's old barn. The boys decide that they want to be real cowboys so they "borrow" a horse that seems gentle and easy to ride. They are surprise when the horse they think is named Gentle George almost bucks them out. They find out the horse was really named Thunderbolt.
The boys had another surprise, too. Everyone in the town was getting ready for a celebration to honor a wonderful teacher named Miss Kelly. A
mean, cranky lady comes to the celebration and makes it clear that she wants to tear down the town, the school, and fire Miss Kelly. The rest of the story is about how the boys try to save the day.
Robert Newton Peck wanted to entertain his readers and he wrote a book that did a good job of doing that. The events were exciting and funny. He also included details that inform the reader. I learned that racehorses can buck and run really fast.
I liked the book because it was funny and exciting. The events made me want to keep reading to see what would happen next. I would recommend this book because it is so interesting and real. It was a lot of fun to read it. I think kids who are in third to fifth grade would also enjoy this book.
