4.0 out of 5 stars Exotic locations, fast-moving action, September 3, 2011
This review is from: The Source (Paperback)
At the core of this novel is the 16th Century artefact known as The Voynich Manuscript - it really exists, its illustrations are real, and the fact it's written in a language that experts have never been able to identify or translate - is a matter of historical record.

Like Cordy's previous novels (I'm a fan and have read all of them), The Source combines adventure and action with Cordy's constant themes of science vs. religion, and Man's quest to understand the past and the mystery of our existence.

I've enjoyed all of Cordy's books and The Source was no exception.

Fans of Raiders Of The Lost Ark-type films will enjoy the exotic locations and fast-moving action, but it is the deeper, questioning nature of the story - universal themes of Man's conflict with one another and with the morality of faith and of science, that in my view give Cordy's novel a greater degree of satisfaction. Some readers might like to see those themes explored in greater depth, but Cordy doesn't let too much introspection get in the way of the plot twists - this is, after all, a thriller. He maintains a balance, which is what makes this a great read for suspense tragics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cordy shines again!, March 29, 2009
This review is from: The Source (Paperback)
Having read all 3 of Cordy's first works, The Miracle Strain (Now renamed The Messiah Code), The Lucifer Code, and the Crime Code and enjoyed them tremendously I had been awaiting the next publication patiently for years.

What compells me to Cordy's work is not so much the adventure and action that drives his stories forward with a considerable force, it is much more his amazing ability to nurture the age long questions between science, religion and faith. His work bears ressemblance to Dan Browns plots even though they are clearly more researched in a theological sense while Cordy focusses more on the above mentioned dilemma.

Cordy does not disappoint in this book and as in the others his agnostic (not atheist views) springs clearly to the forefront i.e. his powerful disappointment in organised religion while still seeing much more of an overlap between science and true faith and maybe less of a conflict afterall.

So if you love Raiders of the Lost Arc action this is also a book and an author for you but if you enjoy the age long battle between religion and science this book and author will surely resonate even more.

I am also very interested personally to learn what linkage there is with the 2006 movie "The Fountain" featuring Huge Jackman. It seems the story lines are extremely similar (leaving aside the science fiction part of the movie) and since the movie came out first I wonder if the early drafts of the book somehow formed the basis for the movie or concerningly if Cordy has somehow integrated a tad too much from the movie in this book released after the movie. I refer you to my separate review of The Fountain
