Product Description

Package Quantity: 1 | Size: 180

Dietary supplement. Promotes fat digestion and metabolism. Artichoke extract stimulates bile production, promoting fat digestion and metabolism. By stimulating bile, it supports liver and gallbladder function and may help relieve occasional indigestion. Medical experts theorize that it may also inhibit activity of the cholesterol production enzyme HMG CoA Reductase to balance LDL cholesterol and triglyceride production in the liver for cardiovascular support. Source Naturals Artichoke Extract 500 is standardized to 5% cynarin and 15% chlorogenic acids for maximum potency (These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease). Suitable for vegetarians. Contains no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, corn, soy or wheat. Contains no sugar, starch, salt preservatives, or artificial color, flavor or fragrance.

The disclaimer: I am not a doctor.

Anecdotally, I *did* drop my total cholesterol levels from 246 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) to 183 mg/dl. That's 63 points. I take 2 of the "extract 500" artichoke tablets twice a day with food (for a total of 4 daily tablets), plus I also take 1-10 milligram tablet of policosanol at the same time I take the artichoke herb (a total of 2-10 mg policosanol tablets per day). My LDL (low density cholesterol is the "bad" cholesterol) went from 144 to 99 mg/dl. My HDL (the "good" high density cholesterol) went from 81 to 66 mg/dl.

I stopped my regimen for about 4 months and my total cholesterol levels went back up, so I'm back "with the program." I do feel better. I haven't noticed any side effects, but as with any herbal product, everyone's body is different, and may react differently, so please be aware of those issues.

Results may vary. One of my friends tried the artichoke tablets, and his total cholesterol dropped 20 points, but I don't know what dosage he took. He said he is pleased with the turn-around.

One advantage, as the previous reviewer has pointed out, is that I've noticed a decrease in my tendency to constipation.

My cardiologist told me to take artichoke extract and said it would lower my LDL by 12%. Sure enough, my next blood test proved this to be true. I take three daily.

I have used Source Naturals products for 15 years and like the brand. But I had a bad reaction to the artichoke extract, which I had never taken until buying a bottle of this recently. After taking the supplement for two days, I developed sores in my mouth. My whole mouth ached, including tongue, teeth and mucous membranes and I couldn't eat anything acidic. Since I wasn't sure this supplement caused the reaction, I stopped taking it, waited about 10 days, then took one pill again. Same effect, only the sores seemed more painful the second time. The strange thing is that I have never had an allergic reaction to anything before: supplements, medicines, foods or pollen. I always assumed I'm not allergic to anything. I eat artichokes all the time, so I know they aren't a problem for me. And as I say, I trust this brand (and still do). I can't find any reports on Web MD or Consumer Lab on allergic reactions to artichoke extract, so I seem to be an anomaly. I'd like to hear if anyone else has had an allergic reaction to any brand of artichoke extract.

This product is supposed to be good for high cholesterol, and i would say it is a good product. Mine is slightly elevated due to genetics, and i wouldn't replace any Rx you are taking, but i do think it has its cholesterol benefits. I will order again.

I'm not sure yet if this is all I need for my IBS problem OR if it is just IBS. I need to get some allergy testing done. It seemed to help for a while and I'm sure it's doing some good, just not sure how much.
