5.0 out of 5 stars Helped Lower My Total Cholesterol Levels
The disclaimer: I am not a doctor.

Anecdotally, I *did* drop my total cholesterol levels from 246 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) to 183 mg/dl. That's 63 points. I take 2 of the "extract 500" artichoke tablets twice a day with food (for a total of 4 daily tablets), plus I also take 1-10 milligram tablet of policosanol at the same time I take the...

I took this as a natural remedy to lower my LDL Cholesterol level, which is slightly elevated (I don't take any statin drugs). After three days, I determined it was the cause of GI upset and it aggravated my reflux. I did not tolerate it well and do not recommend it.

The disclaimer: I am not a doctor.

Anecdotally, I *did* drop my total cholesterol levels from 246 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) to 183 mg/dl. That's 63 points. I take 2 of the "extract 500" artichoke tablets twice a day with food (for a total of 4 daily tablets), plus I also take 1-10 milligram tablet of policosanol at the same time I take the artichoke herb (a total of 2-10 mg policosanol tablets per day). My LDL (low density cholesterol is the "bad" cholesterol) went from 144 to 99 mg/dl. My HDL (the "good" high density cholesterol) went from 81 to 66 mg/dl.

I stopped my regimen for about 4 months and my total cholesterol levels went back up, so I'm back "with the program." I do feel better. I haven't noticed any side effects, but as with any herbal product, everyone's body is different, and may react differently, so please be aware of those issues.

Results may vary. One of my friends tried the artichoke tablets, and his total cholesterol dropped 20 points, but I don't know what dosage he took. He said he is pleased with the turn-around.

One advantage, as the previous reviewer has pointed out, is that I've noticed a decrease in my tendency to constipation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to prescription!, April 3, 2011

I have tried many natural alternatives to control my cholesterol. Heard about this one while sitting at my doctors office on Health Accent. This product has proven to be the best for me and without side effects. Though my total cholesterol is still slightly elevated, all the other levels are great. I will continue to use this product as I have, which is 2 tablets twice daily with or after a meal. Please keep in mind that a healthy diet is also a must and of course adding exercise is even better. Thank you.

My cardiologist told me to take artichoke extract and said it would lower my LDL by 12%. Sure enough, my next blood test proved this to be true. I take three daily.

This product is supposed to be good for high cholesterol, and i would say it is a good product. Mine is slightly elevated due to genetics, and i wouldn't replace any Rx you are taking, but i do think it has its cholesterol benefits. I will order again.

This was suggested to me, to lower cholesterol so I took it for 1 month, and had it checked again, and
it did go down some. I think it helps, but check with you Dr. first I did.

According to the review, this was supposed to be an all natural pill to help with cholesterol. Well it didn't do it's job at all... in fact I am back on Crestor again just to get my cholesterol in check. I do not recommend this product at all.
