About 8 months ago I switched to a plant-based diet. That was when I began experiencing a lot more indigestion and bloating. Before becoming vegetarian, however, I'd already had this problem because I ate a lot of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Through research I learned that my problem was the result of complex carbohydrates (raffinose) and the fibrous cell walls of the vegetables (cellulose). I began taking Beano (alpha-galactosidase) before my meals and noticed immediate, drastic improvement. To save money, I then switched to a generic brand of Beano and experienced the same positive results. Becoming a true believer in enzymes, I started taking Digestive Advantage Gas Defense Formula and had even better results. After that I upgraded to a full-spectrum blend: GNC brand's Multi-Enzyme Formula. I only had to take one each day, and I experienced the best results ever! When that bottle was finally empty, which took almost 6 months, I decided to try a different brand. I bought these Source Naturals Daily Essential Enzymes. The verdict? I guess they are working to some extent, but nowhere near the effectiveness of the GNC brand or the Digestive Advantage. The recommended dose is one before each meal, but I've been taking two or three before each meal and sometimes another one after the meal. I still have a lot more bloating than I did while using the previous products. Perhaps these work best for people who eat a high-fat diet. My point here is this: If you are vegetarian, or if you lean towards a whole-foods diet, I strongly suggest you find an enzyme blend that has alpha-galactosidase in it. Different enzyme blends work for different people, depending on what you eat and where your deficiency lies. I don't doubt that these Source Naturals enzymes work for most people; the reviews here are overwhelmingly positive. But they did not work for me, and I think it's because my diet is high in vegetables and no meat. My advice is to consider what you eat and figure out specifically which enzymes are most essential to you. For example, a high-fat diet requires a lot of LIPASE. A high-dairy diet requires a lot of LACTASE. A high-vegetable diet requires a lot of ALPHA-GALACTOSIDASE. Find a blend that has the appropriate levels of each enzyme for your needs.

This Product is great! I started having digestion problems several years after gallbladder removal. Alot of discomfort after every meal especially lunch and dinner. I was sick of all of this and went to the doctor and he just pushed on the right side of my abdomen and said I had gastritis!!Bull!! He gave me acid reducers which was going to make the problem worse. Well I started to do some research myself and was being my own doctor, and thats how i found this product.I still have to watch my fat intake and stress but let me tell you the pain is all gone and I am so thankful I found this product. I take this with every meal and even between meals sometime. We all need to take this stuff!! It does the job and then some! brendalee@inbox.com

It beat another enzyme product in an oatmeal test that I read about in a document assembled by Jon Barron. The oatmeal test is simple: prepare some oatmeal, and place equal amounts (I had about half a cup of oatmeal in each bowl) into two separate bowls. Dump equal amounts of the enzyme supplements you are testing into the bowls (one bowl per supplement). Stir it up, then let it sit for a few minutes. The enzyme supplement which produces oatmeal with a runnier consistency is likely the superior product (don't try and eat the oatmeal with enzymes--I don't think it will taste good).
When I performed this test with this product and an NSI enzyme product, this product made the oatmeal much runnier. It was cool to see the enzymes in action. What is also nice about this product is that it packs more enzyme potential per capsule than the other product, which means this product last longer because it requires a smaller serving size. One more thing--since I've started taking this enzyme supplement, I no longer feel sluggish after my afternoon meals (provided I get enough sleep). And overall, I feel better. Hard to describe, and I know the placebo effect may be occurring, but there you have it.

Works great
