Took this to help with sleep and depression as I was trying to avoid a prescrption drug. Seemed to work for a few months but then didn't notice much after that. Kind of felt like I did before taking it. Was not interested in increasing dose as that scares me. Stopped taking it because there was a possibly that it would interact with a med I was to start taking. Did not...

This review is from: Source Naturals N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine 300mg, 120 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
I have been diagnosed with ADD (finally, after my 50th birthday). I was online and ran across the web site of Dr. Daniel Amen (not religious "Amen" but that's his name). He is a pioneer in ADD and has published many books and has specials on PBS from time to time. His web site, [..] , includes much information for the lay person, including a couple of easy online tests that might help a person start the diagnosis process for him- or herself. I have read several of his books for laypeople and I recommend them. (I have no connection with Dr. Amen or his clinics.)

To make this short, my particular type of ADD (there are at least six) responds to medication. Since I didn't want to go to my doctor and ask for Ritalin or something similar, I tried the recommended supplement, L-Tyrosine. I found that plain L-Tyrosine did nothing, but after further research I found N Acetyl Tyrosine helped --not just marginally, but obviously and greatly--and it was noticeable in less than two days. It has no stimulating effect. It needs to be taken on an empty stomach, like other amino acids.

Don't take my word for this, but do your own digging. Even if the ADD type you are researching doesn't respond to the N Acetyl Tyrosine, you will know enough to deal with the problem yourself in some cases, or when and where to seek help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do You Have a "Grasshopper" Mind?, December 18, 2009

This product has significantly increased my energy and focus. During the winter months, I always found it hard to wake up in the morning, and never really quite felt like I "woke up" as the day went on. The impact of the N-Acetyl-Tyrosine was instantaneous. After just a few days, I was waking up an hour before my alarm clock had been set for. I would suggest taking it no later than noon, each day, as taking it later may prove to interfere with sleep. I take 2 300 mg tablets each morning, and 2 more with lunch. As a coach and author on "Productivity" this supplement has certainly earned a spot on my list of "must have's" for peak performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Winter Depression, January 3, 2007

I've been taking these from September to March for 12 years. They take three days to get full effect and they work great for seasonal depression. I couldn't live in the Northwest USA without them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best formulation for absorption I've seen in an L-tyrosine product., May 19, 2011

Along with the Folic acid (400 mcg) and the Vitamin B-6 (25mg; as pyridoxine HCL), you get the 300mg of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine. With L-Tyrosine, I wanted to make sure I absorbed as much of it as possible and this formulation was mentioned many times in various websites that focus on cognitive enhancement techniques as being one of the best (others requiring the addition of other amino acids that come as standalone products). L-Tyrosine, taken with other cognitive enhancers, is very effective in helping you focus and also in keeping the stress down when your doing intensive studying. Taken alone and under normal everyday circumstances, the benefits are not seen as much (if at all). I've read hundreds of testimonials from numerous sites and the consensus seems to be that if you "think" it might be helping, then there's probably a placebo effect going on, but if you "know", then you know, as in my case. I'm usually very skeptical, but when I started taking these, I noticed a considerable effect on my mood and focus. But then again, I was hardly sleeping and working through loads of study. I still keep these during those periods in time, and they are very effective.

3.0 out of 5 stars underwhelming, November 27, 2011

I had previously tried just plain l-Tyrosine, taking 500mg two to three times per day to treat ADHD. I wasn't sure it was working, but I noticed that I had an easier time without meds. I then switched to this acetylated version, thinking that I could do with less. I haven't noticed it being as effectively, which is strange because it's supposed to be more bioavailable. The instructions say to only take this product once per day, but that's done nothing for me. I am going to go back to vanilla l-Tyrosine supplements.

My daughter has been taking this for a few weeks now to help improve energy and endurance. Her muscular weakness condition makes many activities hard for her to do. She has reported, and I have observed, some small improvements in her abilities since she began taking this product. The results are very individualized (I know others that have tried this amino acid), so you won't know the affect it will have on you unless you try.
I also tried Tyrosine (not the acetylated form, though) and found that it made me more alert late in the day and especially at night. I could not fall asleep until late at night, had lucid dreams, and woke very easily. I got limited sleep while taking Tyrosine, but I DID NOT feel tired. I think the effect of being more alert results in the perception of more energy, which results in being more active, which can have a positive impact in many ways. Try it an post the result you observe!

I myself have horrible ADD, I have a bachelor's in psychology but didn't realize that I had the condition until I was in my junior year. This supplement has helped me out quite a bit, probably more than any other supplements except maybe tyrosine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Folic Acid?, March 26, 2010

This review is from: Source Naturals N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine 300mg, 120 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine is N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine, so any brand will do, as long as it comes from a reputable company. For some reason, however, Source Naturals (a company I have always considered to be reputable, so I'm assuming this is just an error in someone's judgment that will be corrected sooner rather than later) has elected to add 400 micrograms of folic acid to each 300 mg tablet. Why do that? How does such a large amount of folic acid contribute to the metabolism of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine? Other manufacturers add B-6, but SN is the only company I can find that adds folic acid. Given that high doses of folic acid are now implicated as a cause of lung, prostate and colon cancers, I cannot fathom why anyone who takes a multivitamin or a B-complex (because most contain at least 400 mcgs) would add to their risk by taking this product.

If you are looking forward to get your items two weeks after you order it. then go ahead and wait . GNC has it the same price but much faster. It would probably be 5 minutes from home. It definitely wasn't worth it
