4.0 out of 5 stars Great plant-based omega-3 supplement
I found these while looking for a non-fish omega-3 DHA supplement. I believe this is the same DHA you'll find in any Martek or Life's DHA product, and that they all are from the same company.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rare Algal Oil DHA best for Prenatal Nutrition
I bought this as a prenatal supplement. I wanted a 200mg dose because that's what is recommended and I didn't want to take multiple pills each day. I also chose Neuromins because it's derived from algal oil rather than fish oils. They seem expensive, but aren't when compared to similar products (OptiNate, Promise, etc). I have not tried other products, but I'm only giving...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great plant-based omega-3 supplement, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Source Naturals Neuromins DHA 200mg, 120 Softgels, packaging may vary (Health and Beauty)
I found these while looking for a non-fish omega-3 DHA supplement. I believe this is the same DHA you'll find in any Martek or Life's DHA product, and that they all are from the same company.

The benefits of supplementing a diet with fish oil come from the omega-3 fatty acid, DHA. Traditional fish oil capsules contain less than 100 mg of DHA per 1 gram of oil. This product contains 200 mg of DHA per capsule from a vegetarian plant-based source, algae.

I take 2 capsules in the morning. They're small and round, so they go down without a problem. If not eaten with food, a hint of seaweed can be tasted after several minutes.

These are better than fish capsules if you're a vegetarian, but (as with almost all softgels) the capsules are made from gelatin (a non-veg ingredient).

I recommend these, they're a little pricey, but a bottle will last 2 months when taking 2 capsules per day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been using DHA for 10 years now, March 29, 2010

This review is from: Source Naturals Neuromins DHA 200mg, 120 Softgels, packaging may vary (Health and Beauty)
In my mid to late 40s I started having memory loss... like going to another room to get something and completely forgetting what it was. I figured it was a hopeless aging thing that I would have to accept as part of getting hold and losing my female hormones. Then I learned about Neuromins (Martak Labs) DHA derived from algae and started taking it every day. In a short time my eyes were able to tolerate bright sunlight for the first time in my life. Then I noticed I no longer forgot things anymore. This stuff is amazing - it is now 10 years later and I amaze myself with how much I can remember, I often times do not even bother to write lists sometimes and can still remember. I've had episodes were I wanted to remember something and 20 - 30 minutes later the answer would pop into my brain. I've had episodes were I was driving by a store thinking of something totally unrelated and my brain (memory) gave me a pop-up as I was getting near the store to turn in a buy some item I thought about 4 days earlier. DHA keeps your brain's memory file folder active and well connected and organized and does these amazing information searches if you let it. I do not smoke, drink alcohol and avoid sugars, carbs and processed foods.

5.0 out of 5 stars DHA from algae, November 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Source Naturals Neuromins DHA 200mg, 120 Softgels, packaging may vary (Health and Beauty)
DHA from algae was recommended by Dr. Michael Roizen from the Cleveland Clinic - co-author of the "You ..." health book series. He and his colleague said it was great for many purposes, especially brain power and mental/brain health. I have been taking 600 mgs/day for about 5 months (1 capsule, 3 x/day). I have found that my mind is clearer, even when tired; and my memory is better, even when tired. Source Naturals is one of the few companies which make DHA from algae and I am quite pleased with it. Source Naturals has always been rated highly for content quality control; from various nutritionists and naturapaths whom I have consulted; so I trust this brand.

I have not tried other products, but I'm only giving this product 3 stars because the round capsule does not go down smoothly and I have algae burps if I take the pill during the day and some queasiness if I take it at night.

I investigated DHA before I purchased this DHA for my son.Since it is the trademark under Martek company,I trust its quality.I asked Martek company to check if this product is the same thing like Martek's life DHA.I got reply that the capsules are the same thing and they just trademark different brand name.So I will continue to purchase this in the future. In August, amazon had promotion on this product.I am glad that I get a good discount on it.Thank you amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for memory and better eyesight!, June 25, 2009

I started taking DHA well over 10 years ago and I take a capsule everyday. Big difference I noticed is how much my memory improved. I no longer walk to another room to fetch some thing and then completely forget why I was there...which happened a lot before I added DHA to my vitamin pack...I also take MegaHydrate by Patrick Flanagan with the DHA to ensure maximum absorption. DHA has helped my blue eyes that are super sensitive to bright light, sun etc handle the bright lights & sun much better. I nearly felt blinded by the bright sun, but now with DHA in my system I can tolerate brightness a whole lot better. I know this stuff works cause I once ran out for 3 weeks and sure enough, my memory started slipping and I was desparate for sun glasses again. True DHA is ALL made by Market Labs out of Japan as they have the patent on it and sell to different vitamin resellers. Why eat toxic fish for the DHA oil? Eat the DHA the fish get from the microalgae grown by the Japanese.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a vegetarian DHA option., June 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Source Naturals Neuromins DHA 200mg, 120 Softgels, packaging may vary (Health and Beauty)
I am a vegetarian and was looking for a DHA that was animal product free. The product sounded good online being from natural sources and we ordered it. Upon receipt, we were disappointed to find that the first ingredient was gelatin. We immediately returned it. However, it would have been good to know that this product is NOT a vegetarian product to save us time. Marketing needs to do a better job at informing their clients.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misrepresented type of DHA, July 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Source Naturals Neuromins DHA 200mg, 120 Softgels, packaging may vary (Health and Beauty)
I've purchased this product from various vendors, but usually their photos or descriptions match the product. This did not. The photo does not reflect this is the vegetarian type of DHA verses the fish based. Ocean based is usually more costly, so I believe they did this to misrepresent the deal to draw the buyer to buy what they think is a good price for the fish based version, then the vegetarian type shows up.

1.0 out of 5 stars DHA Vegetarian Formula Mistake, February 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Source Naturals Neuromins DHA 200mg, 120 Softgels, packaging may vary (Health and Beauty)
I have ordered Neuromins DHA 200mg many times in the past from Amazon since I give it in large doses to my 87 year old mom. The past two times I ordered it, Amazon sent me a special vegetarian formula that doesn't use fish (even though this is fish oil) - this is not what I wanted and it is not what was advertised on the site. So be careful if you are ordering this - you may get the vegetarian formula even though the description and photo online do not say anywhere that this is a vegetarian formula. On the positive side, Amazon has great customer service and I got a complete refund for this mistake.
