5.0 out of 5 stars The SOURCE
You want hits? Then you buy The Source Hip Hop Hits 8, simple as that. The Source has proven year after year to always drop the years best compilation albums. It's got Chingy, Kanye, Lil Jon and TI. I love this cd I listen to it from begining to end. The best song is Kanye West Through the wire.

Well. Seems like these talentless, gold-toothed imbeciles are really getting rich from churning out this junk faster than Detroit churns out cars because dumb pre-teens and wiggers keep buying into this fad... so I'm going to cash in on it! Quick! Before it dies out! I'm going to make my OWN unlistenable, wretched pop-rap album!

So here I go, with the steps:

1.) Pick out stupid, laughable moniker (IE "Chingy", "Nelly", etc.). Hmm... how about "Dippety D"? I know, I know, it sounds like a Warner Brothers cartoon... but hey, this is what makes money, so who am I to argue?

2.) Go to the mall and buy $500 worth of oversized South Pole and Mecca clothing.

3.) Get a friend with an old electronic keyboard. Actually, scratch the friend part. I can do it myself.

4.) Pick out one of the 16 loaded beats. Choose a tempo.

5.) Put it on, and record myself mumbling over it. Subject matter must not exceed the range of "munny, secks, thugstaz, wummenzz". Oh yeah, gotta curse a lot too. My title track shall be me just endlessly bleating "DIPPETY DIPPETY DIPPETY D!!!!"

6.) When I write the words/lyrics, misspell everything horribly. Hmm. What's a good album title? I know! "Dippity D Duz Da Derrrty Deed".

7.) Shoot the album cover. Wear the aforementioned wigger clothing, scowl like an idiot, and show off my "blang" (fake).

8.) Release, sell the single to MTV, and become a millionaire overnight! It's that easy! AND it requires NO TALENT WHATSOEVER! Those of you clamoring for the "No" button below, wait 'til you hear my new single, "For Sheezy My Wheezy"! It'll soon be blasting at a local school dance near you!

No. Forget it. I'm not going to do any of that. If I make an album, it'll be of my OWN musical merit. I'll actually put some effort into it, and make something I can take pride in.

Avoid.

2.0 out of 5 stars Benzino and Ja Rule???, July 7, 2004

I thought the title of this CD was "Hits" Just because Benzino
has part ownership of the Source magazine, doesn't mean he should be putting his wack tracks on there, or Ja Rule's anti-Em
diss "Clap Back". Sorry brahs, but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em. As for the rest? Too much southern rap for my taste, they may make people dance, but there ain't a real MC in the bunch. Where's Luda? Nice to see E-40 and Gang Starr being featured, but that's really all this comp is worth for.

5.0 out of 5 stars The SOURCE = The best hip hop compilations, June 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Source Presents Hip Hop Hits, Vol. 8 (Audio CD)
The SOURCE Hip Hop Hits puts out by far the Best Hip Hop Compilation albums. Nobody is even close to them. And Vol. 8 DOES NOT DISSAPOINT! You got Kanye West(The hottest rapper right now), R. Kelly, Cassidy, Chingy, Fabolous, Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz, J-Kwon, TI, Ja Rule, Scarface, Ying Yang Twins, and BIG PROPS for throwing Gangstarr on it(THEY DESERVE IT). Every joint on here was a banger, plus The Source is known for spreading the love from each coast. You got bangers from the East, West, South and Mid-West. The only joint that I thought deserved to make it that wasn't here was Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love. Even though it is mainly a R&B song and The Source Hip Hop Hits don't put R&B songs on their albums I thought the impact it had last year was big enough for them to make a exception. I recommend anybody who loves hip hop to jump on this album. Rather then buying dozens of albums to get these hot songs you and can buy this ONE cd and save over a hundred dollars!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why Hip Hop Hits fails all the time., July 27, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Source Presents Hip Hop Hits, Vol. 8 (Audio CD)
Actually, I am Person and not a kid. The reason Hip Hop Hits fails is because of their bad choices of songs.

1. Damn - YoungBloodz - This was hot a long time ago.
2. Industry, The - Wyclef - Never heard of it.
3. Right Thurr - Chingy - This was hot in spring of 2003.
4. Can't Stop, Won't Stop - Young Gunz - This was really big IN WINTER OF 2003!
5. Gangsta Nation - Westside Connection/Nate Dogg - This was hot way back in winter.
6. Clap Back - Ja Rule - Wasn't that big.
7. Through The Wire - Kanye West - Big a few MONTHS AGO!
8. Skills - Gang Starr - I've heard of Gang Starr but not this song.
9. Tipsy - J-Kwon - Really the only kinda recent song.
10. Quarterbackin' - E-40/Clipse - ???
11. Into You - Fabolous/Tamia - This was big. LAST SUMMER!
12. Be Easy - TI - ???
13. Hotel - Cassidy/R. Kelly - Ok, this one is a little recent.
14. Salt Shaker - Ying Yang Twins - Wasn't big. Only a little big.
15. Recognize - Scarface - ???
16. Relationships (With Me And My Gun) - The Untouchables/Benzino (Bonus Track) - Everyone says Benzino is crap. I'll take there word since I've never heard this. CRAP!

JUST SOME MORE JUNK IN OUR MUSIC INDUSTRY!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Source is running empty, September 16, 2004
By
GMac (Anywhere, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Source Presents Hip Hop Hits, Vol. 8 (Audio CD)
If this had been the first album in the "Hip-Hop Hits" series, it would not be a promising start. There are a few decent tunes on here, but as someone who admired the quality of the earlier Source albums, I must express an intense dislike for "Hip Hop Hits Vol.8". There used to be a time when The Source gathered the biggest AND best tracks from the rap indusrty for their compilations, now Benzino has turned the series into a shameless promotion for his own favorites (How else do you explain Ja Rule being here?). Here is a song-by-song analysis of this disaster:
(1) YoungBloodz feat. Lil Jon "Damn" C-. This song is perfect example of why people are getting bored with "Sothern Crunk". It's lame and boring, as it shows Lil Jon becoming a one-trick pony. Not a good song to open an album with.
(2) Wyclef "The Industry" B. Wyclef is very talented, but this song was never a hit. It should be heard for its quality though, even if it only touchs topics breifly. It is clear that Wyclef is above most of his peers in everyway; sorta like 2Pac.
(3) Chingy "Right Thurr" B+. Not my favorite rap song, its better than average though, it kinda grows on you. He reminds me of Juvenile. It's content is not original, but Chingy makes it his own with a relaxed flow and style.
(4) Young Gunz "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" C. If this standard work is what Roca-A-Fella has in it's post-Jay-Z future, the label is going to be in real trouble. They're good, but they have to be better than good to stand on their own.
(5) Westside Connection feat. Nate Dogg "Gangsta Nation" B+. It was nice to see Westside together again. The style and talent cover up for the somewhat standard material. At the bare minimum, the song is stylistic and very enjoyable.
(6) Ja-Rule "Clap Back" D. This anti-Eminem dis is just border line pathetic and lame. Any Eminem song is a bigger hit and better than Ja Rule's weak new stuff. If Ja Rule wants to return to his position "Pain Is Love" brought him to, he must work much harder.
(7) Kanye West "Through The Wire" C. Kanye West has enjoyed chart success through alot of hype, but I find this song to be very pedestrian for rap. The lyrics don't define Kanye as an original rapper, and the use Chaka Kahn's "Through The Fire" doesn't make a very appealing beat.
(8) Gang Starr "Skills" C. The group isn't that good to begin with, and this song has none of the fun that "Militia" had. Gang Starr has a decent, hardcore sound that needs to be refined in order to define themselves.
(9) J-Kwon "Tipsy" B-.This song is fun to listen to, but that still does not make it any better than average. It's not really about anything and gets kinda tiresome towards the end; you may be looking at your watch. He's too overpraised.
(10) E-40 feat. Clipse "Quarterbackin" C+. The track is enjoyable but was never that popular and is pretty forgetable. E-40 and Clipse just aren't that talented. It almost feels as if it was made strictly for the "Madden Football" video games".
(11) Fabolous feat. Tamia "Into You" A. Just great, hip hop with style and substance. It's so nice to hear a gentler, more positive hip-hop songs; one that doesn't hammer the listener, but brings out emotions lightly. He is one of the best rappers of 2003; with both his album and it's singles.
(12) T.I. "Be Easy" C-. He has been compared to Jay-Z and Nelly; despite the difference that he lacks the talent those artists have. Plain, boring, generic rap from an artist who ofers nothing new to the game; no more needs to be said. One must also wonder why this was chosen over his bigger (not exactly better though) hits "Rubber Band Man" and "Let's Get Away".
(13) Cassidy feat. R. Kelly "Hotel" B-. A sorta fun track, R. Kelly does as much as possible, but he even he can't make Cassidy sound original. To be honest, this was a huge Top 10 hit though; so it kinda does belong here.
(14) Ying Yang Twins feat. Lil' Jon & the East Side Boyz "Salt Shaker" B+. Surprisingly, the beat and production make this song rather entertaining. It's much more fun than it has the right to be; given the non-spectacular artists involved.
(15) Scarface "Recognize" C-. Scarface used to be an exceptional rapper, but now he's trying to regain glory that is no longer his. Why listen to this, when you could just buy his older albums?
(16) The Untouchables featuring Benzino "Relationship With Me & My Gun" C-.Just a standard Benzino track tacked on for shameless self-promotion. I wouldn't mind so much if the songt had actually been worth listening to. Atleast "Bang Ta Dis" on "Vol.5" was a good song.
Bottom Line: *1/2. Benzino has ruined the once great Source series in the blink of an eye. If you want to hear a great Source album, buy "Hip Hop Hits Vol.4"; a Source album with the BIGGEST AND BEST raps of 2000. A few good tracks are not enough to balance out all the mediocre ones. To put it in short terms: with so many good compilations out there, why spend money on a bad one? I would not buy this album with a gift card.
