Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Craft shops have a bewildering array of unfinished items made of wood, plaster, ceramics, and other materials all intended for decorative painting. The problem for many craftspeople is in getting started. This handbook, compiled by the editors of Decorative Artist's Workbook magazine, supplies the answers in the form of a variety of material from past issues. Brush strokes, surface preparation, painting techniques, and finishes are covered in the first part. The articles provide the basics for using modern paints and brushes in folk decoration such as Scandinavian rosemaling and Pennsylvania Dutch designs, as well as other popular styles. The second part deals with supplies and resources. There are step-by-step instructions with excellent color illustrations throughout. For all collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars everything you need in one colorful book, March 21, 1998
This review is from: Sourcebook (Decorative Painting) (Paperback)
Being an extreme beginner, I was looking for a complete manual to help me start on my new painting "career". After reading and using the material in this book, I consider myself capable of not only producing quality pieces of artwork, but being able to both sell them and be proud to give them as gifts.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who, wants to learn how to paint; needs to find hard to find supplies; needs a color conversion chart or wants a brush-up course on strokework.
