There are not many books of tales from Africa available for free, and so far this is the best one that I have encountered. The stories are mostly fairly short animal fables. Some of them have European influences, while others are recorded in several versions--one for each of the cultures which interested the author.Because the stories are often violent and cruel, I would not recommend reading the stories to children without first reading them yourself. There is an active table of contents that is not accessible from the menu. There are no illustrations. This book includes 44 stories from South Africa. |
