When I first saw Brian Simpson perform on the Warren Hill Smooth Jazz Cruise in 2005... he was the cruise's musical director... I was quite impressed. Then I heard his first solo album, IT'S ALL GOOD. I was even more impressed. Now, a few cruises later, a successful second release, ABOVE THE CLOUDS and now his latest album, SOUTH BEACH, I consider Brian Simpson, as do so many Smooth Jazz superstars, one of the absolute best in the biz. His piano/keyboard work, influenced primarily by none other than Oscar Peterson, sparkles and dances on the ten infectious melodies and percolating grooves to be found on this exceptional project. Add the likes of Euge Groove, Peter White and George Duke to this project's guest artist list, and you have a guaranteed smash on your hands. Need more convincing? May I present Exhibit A - SOUTH BEACH... the latest from Brian Simpson! ~Scott O'Brien
This CD is by far the best smooth jazz cd that I have purchased in recent years. Often times it takes me a few times listening to a new cd before I can decide how well I like it. Not in this case - loved it from the first time listening to it! Would highly recommend this to jazz lovers!
Beautiful CD! I have all of Mr. Simpson's CDs and believe this is his best effort to date. His playing is superb, the songs are well-crafted and the cast of supporting guest musicians represents the creme de la creme of the smooth jazz world. No longer lingering in the background as Dave Koz's musical director, Mr. Simpson has truly arrived and is now recognized as one of the true greats of his genre. Long live the Kingboard King! I can't wait till his next release!!!
P.S. The world's largest internet radio station, the wonderful SKY.fm, selected "Our Love" as the top smooth jazz recording of 2010.
This is an absolutely fantastic collection of super-smooth jazz! Brian Simpson's genius grows with every release! My favorite songs are "Can't Tell You Why" and "Our Love" but every track is impressive and highly enjoyable! I can't wait to see him live at The Rehoboth Jazz Festival. No true fan of jazz music should deprive themselves of this CD!
to spend 45 minutes of pure heaven on South Beach. Brian Simpson has created probably the best work of his career. Every track is a winner, and with the superb performances of George Duke, Euge Groove, and Peter White, the package is not to be missed. Smooth jazz genius. Enjoy!
