I bought this book after two of my coworkers went on this diet and both lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks. I've been following the program for a little over a week and have lost 7 lbs already! The best part about it is I FEEL healthier and more energetic. This is not so much a diet as a new lifestyle. I was crazy addicted to a lot of unhealthy things but this book ahowed me how to have things I love but in a healthier way. I've never felt deprived as the plan allows (in fact, encourages) eating all through the day. I am finally losing the pounds that run-of-the-mill deit and excercise couldn't budge after years of effort. I Couldn't be happier!

I wish this was not called a diet. This book is a terrific guide to healthy eating and cuts through the fads of the previous 30 years to the bottom line of nutritional eating. Dr. Agatston has certainly done his homework in the area of nutrition and presents facts and studies to back his findings. There is so much misinformation out there, if you REALLY want to know what is best for your health then take the time to study his materials. He also lets you know that nutrition is an ongoing study for him and he will "tweak" his diet if something new is learned.
I especially love the recipes, many of which were devised by well known chefs in the Miami area. The meals are so good they are like eating at a five star restaurant. They do take a little time at first but you will learn short cuts to preparation. Example: I fix several chicken breasts ahead of time, cut them up and freeze them for quick additions to salads, sandwiches etc. My husband and I no longer enjoy eating out very much because our food is so much better tasting, more nutritious and satisfying.
This is a great book to get started on the South Beach Diet. Do not stop here. Order his other books as well. He does add much more information. I believe I have read everything he has written and most of his books have recipes you will enjoy.
If you have had it with fads (get the truth about low fat) and want the best nutrition this South Beach Diet is for you. Enjoy!

I really like this book and diet. The explaination of the diet in the beginning of the book helps one understand why the diet works.

The menus are simple and delicious. Some are a little time consuming at first, however, I have been making most of my own food for a month now and have cut down on prep time significantly. I am learning to substitute from the lists of foods the book provides to add variety to my menus.

In a 4 week's time I have dropped 12 pounds and for me, that is fantastic because extra pounds think I'm their best friend!

I highly recommend the diet and the book.

I don't need to add much to what's already been written about this book, except that after the first two challenging weeks, I settled in and have lost 25 lbs. in 5 mos. I'm sticking with it for life. This is not a diet, per se, but simply eating healthy. I recommend it to anyone who asks.

I really liked the south beach diet books, my husband loved so much what I was cooking he bought me all the books right here in Amazon. Now I feel like a kitchen queen, my husband don't fight about what's for dinner. anyone who can't cook, buy these books, not only your waist will thank you for it but your family as well.

This diet is both workable and satisfying. It can be dialed up or down to suit various preferences, but is essentially high protein and low carb. There's a lot of leeway for overeating, as long as you overeat the right stuff.

The book itself includes quite a bit of cheerleading, and the essential material could be picked up at one of the many glycemic index sites. But the diet's principles are sound, and it does seem to work.

I followed the principles in this book and lost 25 pounds. I've kept the weight off for 5 years. If you like this book, try "The China Study" which is based on a broader body of research, and contains information about the politics of food.

The South Beach is really a new way of eating that is healthy! It is more than a diet rather it educates the reader and gives excellent alternatives to make ones body lean and healthy. I highly recommend this book and now have instituted its principles. I have more energy than I did a year ago and the weight problem I had is gone! This may be the very last diet book I will ever read as it really is a food plan and since everyone "cheats" on diets this allows for the occasional "Cheat" and the long term effects are conscious building as to what is great nutrition. Of course it makes one realize that the reader is in charge of food and not the reverse!
