3.0 out of 5 stars South Beach Diet Dinning Guide
This book is an excellent source of information for when you are dinning out. I wish they had included more brand name restaurants in their book but at least its a very good source of general information if you go by the type of food you will be eating instead of looking for a specific restaurant.

5.0 out of 5 stars South Beach Dining Wherever You Go, February 6, 2006
This review is from: The South Beach Diet Dining Guide: Your Reference Guide to Restaurants Across America (Paperback)
Like to eat out and on The South Beach Diet? This book will help you!

It's an American tradition to enjoy the company of others as you chit-chat about life at your favorite local restaurant. Whether it's fast food, casual dining, or upscale business dining that you prefer, the social atmosphere of eating out is an ingrained part of our society.

But what do you do when you are on a low-carb program like The South Beach Diet? Is there any way to stay on the program when you go out to a restaurant? You bet there is and The South Beach Diet Dining Guide is going to help you do it!

This handy little restaurant reference guide is PERFECT for people following The South Beach Diet who are wanting to know what they can eat when they are out with friends, family, or clients. Covering over 75 popular restaurant chains of all types, including some local upscale family restaurants in America's most popular cities, The South Beach Diet Dining Guide will not lead you astray from the tried and true principles that Dr. Arthur Agatston outlines for you in his popular program.

I like the way each type of restaurant is featured at the beginning of the book (i.e. Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Pizza) with clear instructions about what you should select when visiting the restaurant as well as what you should avoid. Especially for people who are new to The South Beach Diet, this invaluable wisdom from Dr. Agatston will pay big dividends for you in the long run if you learn how to incorporate this way of eating into your life now. Someday it'll become automatic for you!

Each restaurant is listed in alphabetical order in the book which provides specific recommendations for the various phases of The South Beach Diet depending on which one you are following. There is also a section under each restaurant listing called "Best Choices" where Dr. Agatston cuts to the chase and tells you specifically what he thinks you should get to make your meal align with his South Beach Diet principles. He even gets more specific when he lists his "Recommended Dishes" to show you the calories, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, fiber, and specific phase of The South Beach Diet plan that meal is good for.

The South Beach Diet Dining Guide is so easy to follow, the hardest part will be deciding what you want to eat. This is DEFINITELY a book you'll want to carry around with you at all times and is small enough to fit inside your purse or briefcase.

By avoiding the usual fare of highly processed foods, sugar-laced sodas, carb-loaded breads, starchy vegetables, alcoholic beverages, and oversized desserts, you'll no doubt survive your venture out into the wonderful world of restaurants and remain faithful to your South Beach Diet with flying colors! THANK YOU, Dr. Agatston!

Or, if you prefer eating at home, but don't have a lot of time, be sure to check out The South Beach Quick & Easy Cookbook, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars South Beach Diet is Now Even Easier!, June 16, 2006
This review is from: The South Beach Diet Dining Guide: Your Reference Guide to Restaurants Across America (Paperback)
My husband and I gave South Beach a try, but we gave it up about a year ago. The recipes were just so time consuming and the ingredients seemed pricey. We did experience some wonderful results, though. Well, now that more microwave meals are available and meal replacement bars, as well as a 30-minute meals cookbook and this guide, we've decided to give it another try.

This guide is wonderful. It lists all of our favorite chain restaurants. We had no idea there was anything low-carb at one of our favorite mexican restuarants, but sure enough, they offer up fajitas in lettuce wraps. And even for local restaurants not listed, this book gives you ideas on what to look for on all menus. This great resource is just another way South Beach doesn't even feel like a diet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Diet-Friendly Foods on all Types of Menus, January 23, 2006

The South Beach Diet Dining Guide offers an easy resource that points the way to delicious, diet-friendly foods on all types of menus.

This book helps you know how to navigate any menu so that you enjoy what you order and also eat well.

The first part of the guide features listings of over 75 of the most popular chain and family restaurants in America, including mall and airport listings. Each entry provides an overview of the establishment along with specific menu recommendations and nutritional information.

The second part of the guide focuses on upscale dining, with tips and recommendations for business-class restaurants in 15 of the country's most visited cities: Atlanta; Boston; Chicago; Cleveland; Dallas; Kansas City; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; Minneapolis; New York; Orlando; St. Louis; San Francisco; and Washington, DC. The section includes an overview of each of the 75 restaurants listed as well as menu suggestions.

The book also offers menu suggestions for popular ethnic cuisines, such as French, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Indian, and Japanese.

This book is based on The South Beach Diet which is a healthy weight-loss plan that encourages people to eat a variety of nutrient-dense, fiber-rich foods, such as lean sources of protein, reduced fat cheeses and dairy products, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and the right fats like olive and canola oil.

I have to say that I've been eating The South Beach Diet frozen foods, and they are fantastic! Really delicious, healthy, high protein, low fat, and cooked within 4 minutes.

This is the best resource for people who really don't like to cook (like me) and want to eat incredibly delicious meals that are healthy. This is an excellent resource!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful, June 8, 2008
This review is from: The South Beach Diet Dining Guide: Your Reference Guide to Restaurants Across America (Paperback)
I didn't find this book to be very helpful. I loved the South Beach Diet book. But this book only gives recommended dishes which is basically meat or salad. I would have liked to see the nutr. values for more food in each restruaunt so I could decide which one I was willing to have based on carbs and sugar.

I love the South Beach diet since it is so similar to "normal" food that I grew up on but the restaurants are not. This guide shows you before you have to pick it from the menu what is available and what might be the best choices.

2.0 out of 5 stars not worth it unless you need to carry it with you at all times, October 20, 2008

This review is from: The South Beach Diet Dining Guide: Your Reference Guide to Restaurants Across America (Paperback)
The information in this book is basically the same information that's in the South beach Diet book. It is "pocket sized" which makes it nice to carry around if you need to. It also tells you what to order at major chain restaurants. I personally wish I would have skipped it, but I'm sure some people will find it useful. I was expecting it to tell me something the main book didn't.

I'm sure when this first came out it was a very valuable took. But as restaurants come and go, and change their menus, this becomes outdated very quickly. Also, if you're like me and choose small independent restaurants over chains, you need the knowledge of the SB Diet more than this guide.

For one working with the South Beach Diet, the book is a great bible for "eating out". Keep it in the car before selecting your dining plan.

A nice handy book to take along with you when you eat out. However, it doesn't really tell you anything you didn't already learn from reading at least one of the other South Beach Diet books, as far as what to eat and what not to eat. Otherwise, a nice reminder to take along with you when you eat out and can take it out and look something up when you are being tempted by the menu.
