This is a great combination of high fiber and low calories in a granola bar.
Michael Meredith
Like I mentioned, the bars taste good and have a nice moist texture that doesn't leave your mouth dry like most snack bars too.

I like the taste of mocha so I was naturally interested in South Beach Living Fiber Fit Mocha bars.

Length: 1:47 Mins
These FiberFit bars in Mocha flavor have no HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) nor any transfats, which is a very good thing. Each bar has 4g of fat (2.5 sat fat), 120 calories, 9g of fiber (very good for its size!), 125mg of sodium (not too bad) and 7g of sugars (not bad for a granola bar, since they are often glorified candy bars). My only two concerns nutritionally are that there are 3g of sugar alcohols (I've heard bad things about those) and that there is only 2g of protein. The latter is only a problem if you plan to use these bars as a meal replacement. With all that fiber, it may fill you up for a while, but with that little protein, it is very unlikely to last you to your next meal, esp. given the small size.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the taste. Mocha, a combination of chocolate and coffee flavors, is one of my favorite flavors of ice cream, so I thought I'd probably enjoy this flavor of granola bar and I did. It has a distinct mocha flavor. It is also chewy (and a little gooey due to the caramel layer) and a little crunchy. I rarely ever buy granola bars, but I liked these quite a bit!

These are so delicious and they contain good fiber and protein...they fill me up. I use them daily to erase my appetite when I want to eat sugar and fat...The fiber is not reactive like some fiber products out there..the stomach enjoys this great bar.

I really enjoyed the taste of these snack bars. They don't taste at all like other "cardboardy" nutri-bars, but rather like a delicious desert. The bars are soft and chewy, and the mocha taste is pronounced and tantalizing. They might be a bit too soft though, and you may not want to leave them around in a an overly warm place. Also, at 1.23 ounces they are a bit too small to satisfy hunger and you may need to eat a couple of them at a time if you are using them as a meal substitute. Otherwise, they taste great and I would strongly recommend them.

For a snack bar, this one ranks near the top but it's still not great. The flavor is good if you like coffee which I do. It gets the coffee flavor from instant coffee. The fiber is actually significant - most snack bars that claim to be a good source of fiber have two, maybe three grams of fiber. This bar has 9 grams of fiber and only 120 calories. The nutrition label doesn't specify whether the fiber is soluble or insoluble so one can assume it is insoluble. That type of fiber is easier to get and doesn't cause gas as much as the soluble type of fiber. However, you also don't get the benefits to your blood sugar that comes from soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber will make you feel full but should only be a small portion of your total fiber intake.

Why, if it tastes good, is low calorie and has lots of fiber didn't I give it 5 stars instead of 4? Sugar alcohol. The bar has mulitple sweeteners including evaporated cane juice, sugar, corn syrup and sucralose. The total sugar content is 7g but it also has 3g of sugar alcohol from maltitol syrup. Sugar alcohol is not non-caloric and causes intestinal disturbances for many people. Several hours after eating one of these bars I experienced major discomfort, gas and bloating. A few days later I ate another bar with the same effect. Until the sugar alcohol is removed from the recipe, the product loses stars. On a positive note, this product has fewer grams of sugar alcohol than many of the competing products.

To summarize: Small, low calorie, tasty bar with fiber to fill you up but sugar alcohol to cause you problems.

South Beach Fiber Fit bars are delicious, and they claim to provide 36% of the daily value for fiber in a single 120-calorie bar. That's the good news.

The bad news is that these bars certainly should taste good, considering that they contain four different kinds of sugar (with just plain "sugar" listed three times) and two types of sugar substitutes, maltitol and sucralose.

As far as the fiber claim, only a very small amount comes from the intact grains nutritionists recommend. The rest comes from highly refined ingredients such as resistant corn maltodextrin, oligofructose, inulin, and cellulose, which have little, if any nutritional value and are added to products just to boost the amount of fiber they can list on the package. However, there is no evidence that these additives do anything to protect your health the way intact fiber does.

They also contain 4 grams of fat, more than half of which is saturated fat; only 2 grams of protein; and 3 grams of sugar alcohol, which causes digestive upset in many people. To be fair, these bars are very similar to a candy bar, and they are certainly more nutritious than most candy bars. However, they are significantly less nutritious than a lot of other snacks you could choose, including many other snack bars.

Now, I'm a big mocha fan and have had some experience with these "diet" snacks, so I decided to get this South Beach stuff.
When I took one out of the box and handed my coworker one, we both gave each other the same look when we bit down: a look that was expecting the other to give the first reaction. I, of course, decided to take charge and gave a look of disgust. My co-worker said, "They're...interesting..."

I know it's more of the fiber that counts (and it works, too: we both mentioned how much more we used the toilet), but at least they could've given it some more flavor.

Nice chewiness, though.
