Besides serving as host to PBS program Victory Garden, Jim Wilson has been honored with several prestigious awards. They include election to the Garden Writers' Association of America's Hall of Fame, Garden Communicator of the Year by the American Nursery Association, and Life Member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs in 1996. Jim features 175 of the plants that are best suited for the state's hot, humid climate, including annuals, bulbs, corms, tubers, rhizomes, groundcovers, hardy perennials, vines, roses, shrubs, trees, turfgrass, and wildflowers. The South Carolina Gardener's Guide shares with readers a survey of South Carolina gardening from the fist European plant explorers to the blooming botanical gardens following World War II, to today's very sophisticated and multi-variety organic gardens. Great Introduction to South Carolina Gardening,

During the landscaping of our new home, I used this book continually to get a concise review of the plants I was finding at the nursery and that our landscape designer recommended. However, I found that for long-term care we needed a more detailed reference.
