3.0 out of 5 stars filled with some great singles and some "others" , mmmKay?
After seeing the film in the theater, I went straight to the closest music store and picked this baby up. A number of the songs that turned the movie in to a spoof of musicals were just so hilarious, I couldn't stand it. These are great songs to listen to for a good laugh, but this is hardly a CD you'd listen to over and over again.

Personally, I didn't care for the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely outrageous, June 25, 2001
This review is from: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut - Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
"South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" was one of the most outrageous films of 1999. The film was an all-out animated musical, and this CD collects the film's songs, which were written by Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman.

The best of the songs have a sharp satirical edge, and on top of that have catchy melodies (how many people left the theaters singing "Uncle F**ka"?). And of course, they are performed by all our favorite "South Park" characters. Yes, some will find this CD to be childish and disgusting: the songs are full of obscenities, blasphemy, simulated farting, and other potentially offensive material. But it's all performed with an infectious enthusiasm. To me SP:BL&U is a true guilty pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars You'll Be Singing Along, December 3, 1999

Ok, so you may not be singing along all that much, since much of the singing is incomprehensible. However, you will probably be trying.

While Uncle F**ka seems to be the most known song from this soundtrack, I find myself more partial to What Would Brian Boitano Do? and La Resistance (Medley) (which is playing as I write this).

Trey Parker's song writing ability is truly brilliant, in my opinion. Of course, there are those that would disagree with me, but those are obviously the people who will not be buying this CD or the movie. But if you appreciated the movie, than I am sure you will appreciate this CD.

My only complaint is with the songs they included that were not from the movie. Personally, I find them not nearly as good as the songs from the movie. In fact, the only non-movie song I much like is "What Would Brian Boitano Do? Pt. II". I understand, though, that they had to fill out the CD.

All in all, I highly recommend this CD for fans of the movie. Just make sure to set aside some time for figuring out the words to the songs so you can sing along.

Not for your ten year old, this raunchy music is a little too funny to be true. "Blame Canada" and "Uncle..." alone make it worth the price.

Enjoy - but don't listen to it while drinking milk, or you'll spit it out your nose.

Ok, admittedly, South Park is not exactly the most appropriate of shows but everyone's gotta have fun somehow! Best songs: WHAT WOULD BRIAN BOITANO DO?...LA RESISTANCE (MEDLEY)...BLAME CANADA. I'm Canadian so of course I thought Blame Canada would be totally offensive but it's absolutely hysterical! I highly, highly, HIGHLY, recommend this CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, September 17, 2004
This review is from: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut - Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I really liked the first half of the CD. The songs that were taken from the movie were awesome. I love Terrence and Philip! But the second half were songs inspired by the movie and just not that good. I did like the Violent Femmes song, but could have done without the others. I just don't like those artists, so other people might not feel the same way as I do. I did enjoy Terrence and Philip singing along to the Canadian National Anthem, but I wish they would release the version that is on the April Fools episode. That is a better version. But this CD is a good CD if you just want to complete your South Park collection.

i was finally able to lay my hands on a copy without having someone to buy it for me from the States. whew!

i loved the movie! i love the soundtrack! however, the songs that were added could have been replaced with songs from the movie that were not included in the soundtrack, such as: 1) Stan's songs whenever he sees Wendy, and 2) the Mole's swan song (that was really a lot like "A Little Fall of Rain" -- Les Mis). the lyrics would have been helpful too.

nevertheless, it's a great buy if you love the movie! just don't leave it lying around for your younger siblings to get hold of... =)

4.0 out of 5 stars Look out, Gilbert and Sullivan!!, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut - Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Funnier than Hell, and more worthy of praise than many of the pretentious musicals infesting Broadway, the (real) soundtrack follows a fine tradition of musical social and political satire that includes Gilbert and Sulivan's musicals and the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup."

Watching the actual movie, I about dry-heaved I laughed so much. So, I absolutely had to have the soundtrack. Pretty well all the songs have their good merits, though self-righteous prigs need not apply. The innocuous appearance of the characters and the unabashed lusciousness of the orchestral parts cleverly contrast with the acidity of content, which further enhances the hilarity. There's a wide range of musical influences. Of course, one can hear Disney and Broadway, or Meat Loaf in "Up There." But one can also hear what falls under the generic category of "classical" music: traces of Copland in "Uncle F**ka," or of Saint-Saens' opera "Samson and Delia" in "I Can Change."

Two regrets about the soundtrack, unfortunately, which made me give it four stars instead of a full five. Its booklet doesn't contain the lyrics so that you can learn the words and sing along. But that takes (many) multiple listenings and practice. The other is the inclusion of songs not actually in the soundtrack, although Chef's "Good Love" song was a nice bonus. The songs not appearing in the album were for one of two things: either they needed a filler for the rest of the CD, or they wanted to parody the trend of "Albums" (i.e. "Armageddon: The Album," "Godzilla: The Album," etc.) that appear more prominently in stores than the actual (Heaven forbid!!) orchestral soundtracks.

In any case, the real soundtrack (or what appears of it) is well worth the purchase. These songs will enter your head, and you will find yourself humming them in the car, on the street, in church, wherever. The merits more than outweigh the recording's faults.

La Resisitance lives on!

4.0 out of 5 stars Should have won an Oscar!, August 20, 2004
By
This review is from: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut - Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This CD features the songs from the motion picture South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. The songs are hilarious and, in fact, "Blame Canada" was nominated for an Academy Award. Unfortunately, it lost to a lame Phil Collins song. The songs only take up about 25 minutes, so the second half of the CD features bonus songs that were not in the movie. Most of the songs are "interpretations" of the songs from the film by fairly well know musical acts. D.V.D.A., who do the interpretation of "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" are not a well known band, they are actually Trey Parker & Matt Stone's band. The bonus songs overall are not as good as the main songs, and they keep the CD from getting a 5 star review. But fans of South Park will still want to own this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars The funniest soundtrack I have ever heard, March 18, 2004
By
This review is from: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut - Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
"South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" is the funniest film I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in the movie theater. I have never laughed as hard as I did when I saw the film. I couldn't believe the language and that it didn't get edited out. That was one of the few times I had ever laughed so hard that I was literally crying. I had to get the soundtrack right after I saw the film. It had the funniest music I had ever heard. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are brilliant. They managed to create music that took the page right out of Andrew Webber or Walt Disney. The only thing I did not like about this cd was the interpretations. I know they needed to fill up the rest of the cd but those interpretations were awful (except for "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" by D.V.D.A). The least the artists could have done were keep the melodies of the originals. As for the original versions, they were all hysterical. I especially love [track 16] which was first heard on the first South Park Xmas episode. That song never ceases to amuse me. Other hilarious songs that makes me die laughing is "I Can Change" and "I'm Super". Those songs are too funny. Other than the awful interpretations, I love listening to this cd at top volume and singing along to the music.

I find this to be one of the most hilarious CDs ever. I've listened to it for two years now, and I still laugh every time I hear "Through the Eyes of a Child." Don't miss this CD--unless you're easily offended and have no sense of humor.
