South Park - The Complete Fourth Season

For some of you that may not know, the fourth season of South Park was and always will be the best season ever. Here's the episodes and a description about them.

1. Cartman's Silly Hate Crime: Cartman throws a rock at Token and goes to Juvie. There he meets a kid who always wanted to go to Disney World.

2. Tooth Fairy Tats 2000: The boys need quick cash and steal teeth to get money from the "Tooth Fairy".

3. Quintuplets 2000: The boys adopt quintuplets.

4. Timmy 2000: Timmy comes into the boys' class and joins a rock band with Stan's sister's ex-boyfriend.

5. Pip: Pip goes back to England and remenisces about old times he had there.

6. Cartman Joins NAMBLA: Cartman is too "mature" for the other kids and joins an organization with child molestors. There is a real NAMBLA, called "National Accosiation of Marlon Brando Look Alikes".

7. Cherokee Hair Tampons: Kyle becomes sick and needs a new kidney, and Cartman is his last hope. (a.k.a. The Cheech and Chong episode).

8. Chef Goes Nanners: (Never saw this episode, heard is good).

9. Something You Can Do With Your Finger: The boys start a boy band called "Fingerbang".

10. Do The Handicapped Go To Hell? (Part 1): The boys learn about confession and Saddam Hussein comes back into Satan's love life.

11. Probably (Part 2): Cartman teaches kids the joys of Christianity and Satan does it with Saddam...again!

12. Fourth Grade: The boys go to 4th grade and they hate their new teacher, Ms. Choksondik, while she goes on a quest to find the missing Mr. Garrison.

13. Trapper Keeper: Cartman gets a Dawson's Creek Trapper Keeper that holds a secret to destruction.

14. Helen Keller- The Musical: The kids make a play on Helen Keller, starring Timmy, for Thanksgiving. (Gobbles!!!)

15. Fat Camp: Cartman goes to fat camp while Kenny is famous for doing crazy things.

16. The Wacky Molestation: The kids get back at their parents for teaching them what molesting was.

17. A Very "Crappy" Christmas: Mr. Hankey teaches his family about how poop helps everyone.

There you have it, all 17 legendary episodes of the greatest season of South Park.

This season of South Park should be sealed in a time capsule for future generations to enjoy. Here are my views on each episode:
401- The Tooth Fairy's Tats 2000 9/10 Introduction of Timmy is cool
402- Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000 9/10 One of the first South Parks I ever saw on Fathers Day, 2004.
403- Timmy! 2000 9/10 This is where my old username comes from!
404- Qunituplets 2000 8/10 Not as good as the other 2000s
405- Cartman Joins NAMBLA 15/10 This is by far the best of South Park Season 4
406- Cherokee Hair Tampons 10/10 Another episode I watched on Fathers Day 2004, pretty gross as well
407- Chef Goes Nanners 9/10 Another episode I watched on Fathers Day 2004, I like the flag designs
408- Something You Can Do With Your Finger 10/10 Great rip on boybands any year!
409- Do The Handicapped Go To Hell? 9/10 Satan, Saddam and Chris make an awesome love triangle
410- Probably 11/10 I made myself wait a really long week to see this! It was worth it.
411- Fourth Grade 10/10 Great introduction to the boys in 4th Grade.
412- Trapper Keeper 10/10 Also another great show, the world according to that episode would be falling apart by now!

416- The Wacky Molestation Adventure 9/10 This was a cool episode, blaming the parents for molestation

My advice: Buy now before it's too late...

I have never been a big fan of South Park, but really got into it when the season sets were released. I have seen the first three seasons, and while they are great, it only gets better in this season. The raunch and vulgarity you would expect from the show is even sharper in season 4, and you will find even more satire within the episodes. Ranging from issues such as race, government and boy bands, the creators of South Park spare no one. Many of my favorite episodes are contained in this set, a few being Cartman's Silly Hate Crime, Fat Camp, and Trapper Keeper. In Hate Crime, Cartman goes to prison for committing a crime against another race. Clearly pokes fun at the hate crime laws in this country with the message that crime is crime and should be punished accordingly. Many of the episode contain this kind of criticism and that is what makes the show much more than vulgar trash like some people think. Those are only 3 of my favorites though, and there are other classic episodes, NAMBLA definately being one. The only episode I don't care too much for is Pip, as it contains none of the South Park regulars. It isn't a horrible episode though. But as you can tell, the best episodes in my opinion are the Cartman-centric ones, as another reviewer put it.

The DVD package we get is okay, but I know there are many more extras we could have and should have gotten. Essentially there are only the mini-commentaries on some episodes, but other than 17 great episodes there is nothing else really exciting in this whole set. This may disappoint some fans of the show, but I am just happy to own the complete season 4 that I can watch whenever I feel like doing so. I think if these sets were $10-$15 cheaper it would be a fair price, but I do feel like the $49.99 SRP is too high. Usually I would care, but this is South Park and this is a show worthy of being overpriced if there is any. So to wrap it up, I recommend saving your $$$ and buying this set, the best season released to dvd so far. 17 classic episodes are here that every South Park fan should own.

While the fourth season of South Park doesn't live up to the breakthrough brilliant hilarity of the previous seasons or the feature film that came before it, the fourth season is important nontheless. The gang (Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny) move up to the fourth grade, and a new character is introduced that most fans of the series came to love: the wheelchair bound Timmy who is only capable of saying his name. The boys also form their own boy band, and the truth about Mr. Garrison is finally revealed once and for all. Still totally offensive and irreverant, the fourth season of South Park pulls no punches and still comes up a winner just as it as during it's entire series run. Series creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker offer up another "mini-commentary" on the episodes, which is worth the price of admission here alone.

After the blow-out success of their movie, creators Stone and Parker realized just how much they could get away with in their show (there are some funny stories about that in the mini-commentaries to be found on these discs). They used this new-found power not just to reach new heights of depravity, but also to more effectively utilize the show as their own personal soapbox. A tactic like this would cripple shows of less caliber; it is what gave South Park its new legs.

Proving themselves capable of taking on any subject (and rivaling even some news programs with their blink-of-an-eye topicality), season four finds the kids waxing philosophic on hate crimes (Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000), the Elian Gonzales controversy (Quintuplets 2000), holistic medicine (Cherokee Hair Tampons), the Confederate flag (Chef Goes Nanners), the presidential election (Trapper Keeper), and, of course, religion, in the two-parter "Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?" & "Probably," which could be viewed as a quasi-sequel to the movie.

Most notably, this season introduces us to Timmy, a character that Comedy Central initially (and understandably) balked at. Thank God they let this vocabulary-challenged child on the air; who would've guessed that this unlikely staple to the show would prove to be much much more than a one-joke wonder.

The boys behind the screen also churned out some of their most famous episodes this year. Kenny gets grosser than ever (and Cartman slims down, maybe) in "Fat Camp." South Park goes rogue when the parents all leave town in "The Wacky Molestation Adventure." We are treated to a disturbing (and absolutely hilarious) look into the gory depths of Cartman's brain in "Helen Keller! The Musical." Mr. Hanky returns in "A Very Crappy Christmas." And, in arguably one of the shows best episodes ever (if not the most memorable), Cartman -- seeking more "mature" friends -- joins NAMBLA.

The show skids a few times in this season. Their recreation of Dickens' "Great Expectations" is amusing, but only gets laugh-worthy when the show strays from the script (Genesis machine! Robot monkeys!). Even on the mini-commentary (these guys aren't just a treat to listen to, they also give the inside scoop on a lot of things you'd want to know anyway), the creators admit "Chef Goes Nanners" has their most "bummer" ending. And although "4th Grade" is responsible for introducing us to Ms. Choksondik (and also for finally outing Mr. Garrison), it seems like one of the weakest episodes in this season.

But, then again, in a season starring Cheech and Chong, where we're treated to a reality-warping Kyle and Cartman as the tooth fairy, where a handicapped child gets a handicapped pet, and where the kids form a boy band with an unlikely name, the competition is notably fierce. Another great season for a stand-out show.

I love satire. I grew up in the '50s and '60s, when radio and TV satire was virtually non-existant. Stan Freberg's CBS-radio show lasted all of 15 unsponsored weeks. "Rocky & Bullwinkle" ran five years. And that was about it. (The insipid "That Was the Week that Was" hardly counts.) This was the era when Lenny Bruce was arrested for using dirty language in front of an audience that had willingly paid money to see his performance.

One might argue that the quantity and quality of satire is directly proportional to how courrupt society is -- or at least, how aware people are aware of the corruption. By that reasoning, we are living in extremely corrupt times.

The last decade has seen the best TV satire ever -- "The Simpsons," "Beavis and Butthead," "King of the Hill," "South Park," and "The Daily Show." Most of it's animated -- you can get away with stuff in cartoons you can never get away with live.

"South Park" gets away with _everything_ (including coprophagy and eating one's parents, who've been served up as a bowl of chile -- see Greek mythology; it's there, too -- the cannibalism, not the chile), short of graphic sex. There has never been a more rude, in-your-face TV show. And little of it is gratuitous.

Parker and Trey's principal targets are artistic and social trendiness, hypocrisy, political correctness, the failure of adults to listen to their children, and organized religion. (Not Christianity -- organized religion.) They're consistently on-target. No matter how outrageous the humor, they treat the material in a basically honest fashion, refusing (mostly) to take cheap shots. (When the world is as effed-up as it is, you don't _need_ to take pot shots.)

This is seen best in one of the most-outrageous episodes, "Cartman Joins NAMBLA." The paederasts are portrayed in a not-unsympathetic manner (they're not slavering monsters), and at the end, one of them is allowed a sincere speech -- delivered without archess or irony -- defending their point of view ("We mean no harm. This is the way we are," etc). Then Stanley pipes up. "You have sex with children. You just don't get it, do you?"

The politics of "South Park" are ambiguous. Trey and Parker could be Liberals with common sense, or Log Cabin Republicans. ("South Park" is consistently pro-gay, though in a subtle way.) Regardless, they have no hesitation attacking anything they think stupid or meretricious. (Look it up.) Which is almost everything.

Simply for its uncompromising, no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners attitude, I vote "South Park" as the best comedy that has yet appeared on American TV. Indeed, it is arguably the best "entertainment" program that has _ever_ been on TV. It's a shame Jonathan Swift didn't live to see it.

This isn't the best season, but that doesn't mean it isn't great. Season 4 of South Park is probably the most important season of all South Park seasons. Why? well because:

* A new and very important charecter makes his debut; Timmy
* The boys move to the 4th grade
* The truth about Mr. Garrison is revealed
* The episodes "Do the Handicapped Go To Hell" and "Probably" show what happens to Satan after the movie.

All episodes on season four are great, except for "Pip". The episode "Pip" is about the British charecter Pip. If you're a fan of Dickinson's novel "Great Expectations" then you'll like that episode, if you aren't then chances are you won't like that episode like most South Park fans.

Long live the best TV show.

Hey Augustus...why on earth would a devout Christian ever say that someone will *hopefully* burn in Hell? Would Jesus have ever *wished* that upon someone? You sound like the type of "Christian" who thinks that "God Hates Fags," having never read 1 Cor 13.

And another thing...are you sure the South Park guys are really targeting Christianity itself? Sounds to me like you're not really watching the show..."Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?" is not a dig on Christianity - it's a dig on people who a) use it as an excuse to make money, and/or b) take it way too seriously. Sorry if they hit a nerve there. ;-)

South Park is a brilliant satire - long may they live.

The 4th season. the season where we were introduced to Timmy, Ms. Choksondik, and the last of Pip (the British kid). A lot of funny episodes on this set. Cartman's hate crime (2000), Timmy gets his own band (for one episode), we find out that Mr. Hat is a racist, and finding out if the Handicapped go to hell.
