5.0 out of 5 stars Relive the Hilarity of the 90's...
I have finally learned to appreciate--and love--South Park. I'm addicted, in fact, to this hilariously irreverent cartoon that's been perfectly packaged into this 2-season set. The DVD itself is fine, it's got a good number of extras but it's obvious that we came to watch the show itself...without the ads! Woohoo, it's still a novelty for me. The main "extra"...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money...
This is bound to be the stupidest, most disgusting show ever. I can't believe that people actually bought the DVD. My advice? Don't waste your time or money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relive the Hilarity of the 90's..., March 17, 2004
This review is from: South Park - Complete First and Second Season Pack (DVD)
I have finally learned to appreciate--and love--South Park. I'm addicted, in fact, to this hilariously irreverent cartoon that's been perfectly packaged into this 2-season set. The DVD itself is fine, it's got a good number of extras but it's obvious that we came to watch the show itself...without the ads! Woohoo, it's still a novelty for me. The main "extra" bit, involves a short chat, with Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park. At first these funny and disturbing (just like South Park!) bits were kind of annoying, but they grew on me. They're totally irrelevant to the episode, so don't expect some sort of insightful, documentary-style commentary on your favorite episode. (EVERY episode is THEIR favorite!!) But overall it's an amusing way to start each episode.
There are several other bonus features that are hilarious: check out Cartman singing "O Holy Night" and the fake-MTV-style "Goin Down to South Park" Documentary.
But what about what you REALLY wanted to see anyway, the actual EPISODES?? Well, owning it on DVD means that you can listen to the fabulous themesong or your favorite tune by Chef as many times as you'd like, or you can rewind and hear Cartman say "Pot Pie" over and over again. It also means that you have instant access to some of the best South Park episodes ever, including Weight Gain 4000, Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo, Cartman's Mom..., Conjoined Fetus Lady, Summer Sucks, Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls, Cow Days, Chef Aid, and many more. All the shows are great, but the second season in particular really picks up and surpasses the first one in hilarity. In short, this contains all you'd really desire in a good, solid DVD, focusing on the comic genius (and do I use that word on just ANY show? NO!) that is South Park. Need a laugh? Get it as a gift! Get it for youself!Meanwhile, I'm off to start on the third season...

5.0 out of 5 stars SATIRICAL, WONDERFUL, CRUDE & LOOK TO BUST A GUT!!!, September 6, 2003

SOUTHPARK is one of those shows that most people either love or hate.

It's easily misleading to the haters because it has so much profanity and gross bodily gestures, as well as stabs at anything Americans hold sacred (i.e. Church, liberties, etc).

During an interview, the creators made the comment that nothing could be held sacred in this series because that would have destroyed the spirit of their show.

The purpose of SOUTHPARK is sometimes satirical, and, this is one of the two levels of the show. On the base level, we've got the high school jokes and usual crude humor. For those who appreciate satire, there are deeper levels of meaning.

To understand SOUTHPARK, you have to understand that they lift ideas and themes from old movies, making fun of actors, celebrities and so forth. It would take forever to list the 30+ episodes but here are some of the top ones:

(1) PINK EYE: a tribute to the old zombie horror B films, where SOUTHPARK is turned into a zombie army, and, the boys, with the help of Chef, must save the town. Look for the spoof on the Michael Jackon "Thriller" music video;

(2) CHICKEN LOVER: officer Barbrady, the only police officer, has to investigate a lurid crime, but, he has quit the force b/c he has admitted he can't read! But, with the help of the boys, he not only learns to read but, by deputizing the boys, is able to solve the crime. Look for the spoof on "Cops", when Cartman is deputized!!! RESPECT HIS AUTHORITAAAAYYY!!!;

(3) (CENSORED): the boys get to go to national dodge ball, where they eventually get to go against the inhuman Chinese players. Look for satirical attacks on China, as well as some other matters which can't be brought up here.;

(4) CLUBHOUSES: Stan's parents get a divorce, while he is trying to woo his flame, Wendy, in the clubhouse . . . so his mother brings in her new boyfriend, and, we get to see all the satirical viewpoints on marriage break ups and how parents say they care about kids the most but that isn't always the case.;

(5) WEIGHT GAIN 4000: Cartman gets so huge; look for the spoof on the exercise guy withe pony tail. Also look for attacks on Cathy Lee Gifford;

(6) DAMIEN: the demon child visits Southpark, setting up a wrestling match between the bulky Satan and the thin but passionate Jesus. Look for the twist in this tale; and

(7) TOM'S RHINOPLASTY: While Stan falls in love with the substitute teacher, the old teacher, Mr. Garrison, goes off to get plastic surgery and gets a head like David Hasselhoff! So he goes into modeling and we get to even hear Bee Gee songs to add to the laughing pain!

Overall, a great series, but, not for those who can't laugh at themselves or life.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest shows ever gets a lackluster DVD., August 2, 2003

This review is from: South Park - Complete First and Second Season Pack (DVD)
Don't let the four stars fool you, the South Park show gets five stars in my book. It's one of the funniest shows ever, and these DVDs are the perfect way to watch all those old episodes again. Included here, you get the complete first and second seasons of South Park, with all epsidoes included. The actually episodes get five stars, however the other features of the DVD bring the total score down to four. First off the Video and Sound aren't as good as they should be. I know its TV, but there are several instances when you can notice rough edges and such. The sound is stereo, obviously since its a TV show, but it also is a little harsh when raised to higher volumes. The extrax department is a little lacking. Especially the absence of Matt Stone and Trey Parker's commentaries, which would have been hilarious. You can order a CD of commentaries from ComedyCentral.com and play it as you watch them, but its not the same. The other extras are cool to watch, but nothing to groundbreaking. This is one DVD where the Show/Movie saves the DVD from being poor. And this is one good show.

The Funniest Show in TV history and on Comedy Central is the four boys with the faces of an angel and the mouth of a sailor who live in the small mountain town of South Park. If Your the kind of person who hates animaniacs, then this is the animated show for you. from Trey Parker and Matt Stone and featuring the voice talents of......Trey Parker and Matt Stone and the voice of Issac Hayes as Soul singing school chef, Chef. The first and Second Season of their hysterical genius. Their hilarious beginnings, Cartman gets an Anal probe,Pinkeye,Chicken Lover,Clubhouses and all the hysterical episodes. This has been my favorite show since it first aired in 1997, I've watched it ever since and I've seen the movie and BASEketball. If you never seen this and your into slapstick comedy or if the Simpsons is'nt a funny animated show then I recommend these DVDs. So bring home or see the first and second season of Stan,Kyle,Kenny,Chef,Mr.Garrison and of course the not fat,big boned bad boy, Cartman. Let these DVDs welcome you to South Park,Colorado.

South Park is arguably one of the greatest satires ever... an extremely funny social commentary.
Is there "naughty language"? Yes.
Is there crude subject matter? Yes
Is there the funniest and most un-P.C. humor to ever be witnessed on television? Yes.
Dont listen to morons, watch it and enjoy for yourself.

Demonstrates that you do not need a billion dollars of CGI effects to fun to watch. Great writing that admittedly appeals to the baser side of one's personality. Very, very funny.

South park rocks. no questions asked. the one and only problem with this set, for those of you who can't do math, is that it costs over $100, when getting the 2 seasons separately coasts only $34. buy south park, but please don't waste your money on this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Episodes Bad DVD, January 1, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: South Park - Complete First and Second Season Pack (DVD)
Southpark is a great show and the episodes made this five stars. However the fact that the people who made this DVD listed the episodes wrong/out of order on both DVD boxes, and the fact that the opening chats with Trey and Matt are a repititve waste gets this pack minus one star. Thankfully those awful side chats dont last the entire first or second dvd. But still this is a great buy.

A thorough and meticulise collection of the first two seasons of SOUTH PARK, you will never want to stop watching them. Not only will you enjoy the episodes you saw not so long ago, but you will see Trey and Matt talking about the things they were doing towards SOUTH PARK. Buy this collection as soon as you can, you will be thanking yourself all the way to the unveiling of Season 3!

This review is from: South Park - Complete First and Second Season Pack (DVD)
The two seasons are funny as hell, the only bad thing about the first season is Matt and Trey's introduction to the episodes, they're annoying, but it's nothing a ffw button can't fix. The price is totally wort it
