South Park Season 12

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

For those South Park fans who have wondered if their beloved animated series would lose its satirical edge after a decade on the air, the Complete Tenth Season boxed set provides a resounding negative. Creators Matt Park and Trey Stone come out swinging with the season opener, "The Return of Chef," which addresses both the media frenzy churned up over the headline-grabbing "Trapped in the Closet" episode from the previous season, as well as the departure of Isaac Hayes, who voiced the well-loved Chef (and netted the series its highest ratings for a debut episode in years). Not content to leave one religion alone, the show tackles the 2006 riots over the depiction of Mohammed in Dutch newspapers (and delivers a much-deserved zing to Family Guy) in the two-part "Cartoon Wars" (the revelation of Family Guy's real writers is among the funniest notions ever penned for South Park) and intelligent design in "Go God Go" (Mrs. Garrison is up in arms over being forced to teach evolution until the arrival of Richard Dawkins changes her mind). Also in the show's firing line are such sacred cows as Oprah Winfrey (Towelie pens a faux memoir a la A Million Little Pieces in "A Million Little Fibers"), Al Gore (who attempts to drum up interest in his hunt for the mythical "ManBearPig"), environmentalists (who create a new form of pollution with their hybrids in "Smug Alert!"), the popular online game World of Warcraft ("Make Love, Not Warcraft," which earned the series an Emmy nomination) and George W. Bush (who tangles with Kyle over 9/11 in "Mystery of the Urinal Deuce"). Of course, South Park wouldn't be South Park without moments of jaw-dropping bad taste, and viewers are treated to not one but two jokes about the death of Steve Irwin (including his appearance at a Halloween party thrown by Satan in the critically reviled "Hell on Earth 2006), children with terminal diseases, teacher-student sexual relations, and a whole host of bodily functions and absurdly graphic violence (the latter is provided by a trio of serial killers in "Hell on Earth 2006"). Supplemental features on the three-disc set are limited to a brief introductory commentary track on each of the episodes by Parker and Stone; while short, they underscore the duo's irreverence and highlight some of the trials they underwent to produce the season (in particular, the network's concern over "Cartoon Wars"). --Paul Gaita

5.0 out of 5 stars hell yeah! July 4, 2007
By bart
Format:DVD
Season 10 is filled with some very memorbale and hilarious episoded. Heres the list.
1. Return of Chef-After spending sometime away from South Park, Chef returns but has become a much different person.
2. Smug Alert- Stan get everyone in South Park to buy electric cars. However, the cars cause an unexpected danger.
3. Cartoon Wars pt 1. The show Family Guy is going to have an image depicting Muhammed. The South Park town panics when fearing a terrorist attack because of this.
4. Cartooon Wars pt 2. It is discovered that Cartman hates Family Guy and is using this situation as an opportunity to get the show cancelled. Along the way, he is aided by a certain kid he met at FOX studios who also hates Family Guy.
5. A milion little Fibers- Towelie writes his memoirs butrealizes no one is going to publish a book about a towel. So he pretends to be a real person.
6. Manbearpig- Al Gore comes to South Park and warns the boys about a creature named Manbearpig.
7. TSST- The School board has decided that their fed up with Cartman's immoral (and quite erradic) behavior. So Cesar Millan from the "Dog Whisperer" is hired to set Cartman straight. Although Millan may have what it takes to get the job, Cartman's not going down without a fight.
8. Make love not Warcraft- The boys and their friends try to stop mad gamer in World of Warcraft.
9. Mystery of the Urinal Deuce- Cartman leanrns the "truth" about 9/11 while Mr. Mackey tries to find the culprit who went number two in a urinal stall.

5.0 out of 5 stars These kids are alright June 5, 2007
Format:DVD
The landmark season of South Park saw Matt Stone and Trey Parker's animated series back on top thanks to some scathing, satirical moments and just plain animated lunacy. It also saw the departure of Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, who departed after the previous season's lampooning of scientology and Tom Cruise. His departure is spoofed in the opening "Return of Chef" which uses archive sounds of Hayes' voice as Chef returns to South Park brainwashed by the Super Adventure Club, and seeling to "re-connect" with children. Things only get better as Kyle's dad buys a hybrid car in "Smug Alert!", Al Gore seeks attention from anyone with "Manbearpig", Cartman's mom turns to the Dog Whisperer in "Tsst!", Satan has a killer Halloween party in "Hell on Earth 2006", and Cartman seeks to freeze himself in anticipation for the release of the Nintendo Wii in "Go God Go". The best moments of the season however came with the two part "Cartoon Wars" which hilariously lampooned Family Guy, and it makes sense in a way you've never imagined. "Make Love, Not Warcraft" satires the players of the incredibly popular online RPG, and "Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy" finds little Ike having an illicit affair. The only downpoint of the season is the closing "Stanley's Cup" which finds Stan coaching a terrible pee-wee hockey team, for no apparent reason. This episode just isn't funny, at all. Despite that though, every other episode here in the tenth season is a winner, and ten years and still going strong, South Park proves that these kids are quite alright.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic November 3, 2007
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first time I watched this set, I honestly didn't get some of the episodes. It was much like Napolean Dynamite for me, I didn't like it the first time through. I laughed at certain points. But the second time I watched Napolean Dynamite, I started to get the joke. And now, it's one of my favorite movies.

I bought the series mostly for a good copy of Make Love, Not Warcraft. This season may be a little more preachy than the previous season, but it's still funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't stop laughing December 26, 2006

You may like Southpark, and you may not. But if you are into MMORPGs then this is a must see episode. They've effectively have captured the sentiment of both the players that are into MMORPGs and the people that are not and are annoyed by the enthusiasm of those that are.

In this episode the boys join forces to defeat a player that has achieved such a high level that even the administrators can't stop him. The decide to give up their normal lives and play without end so that they can defeat this problem player and save the World...of Warcraft.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am socializing Artard.... December 26, 2006

I have watched this video at least 10 times and enjoyed it everytime. This episode of South Park contains exquisite humor that may not be understood or appreciated by the average person. Most gamers will, however, laugh until they call, "mom... bathroom, bathroom!!!!" Ingenious blend of South Park humor and WOW environment created a brillant comedy experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars South Park Issues The Challenge To Family Guy June 25, 2008
Format:DVD
With season 10 the South Park creators set out to give us something that would challenge the creators of Family Guy and would set out in challenging those who like the Family Guy comedy. They also set out in making a point about the whole showing an image of the Prophet Muhammad on national TV, they set out in making a point about freedom of expression and not allowing terror threats to scare them. Did they win that war? You'll have to watch this season to find out.

Episode 1: The Return of Chef: In this episode we see Chef return to South Park after a time with the Super Adventure Club who we later learn that they are a group of explorers that show a special interest in the children of remote tribes. The boys have to cope with this change in Chef and the influence that the Super Adventure Club had on him. In reality this is the episode where we say goodbye to Chef for good, as in season 9 South Park had an episode called Trapped in the Closet which made fun of the "Religion" of Scientology. Isaac Hayes who was the voice of Chef is a Scientologist, he seemed to hold a double standard when making fun of religion. It's OK to make fun of Christianity, Judaism, Mormonism etc but as long as you don't make fun of Scientology it's OK but if you do then Hayes said goodbye to South Park. This is an amazing episode and is really enjoyable listening to Chef speak as it's chopped together dialogue from previous episodes.

Episode 2: Smug Alert: "I know, for this episode let's make fun of those people who drive environmentally friendly cars and suddenly think they're better than everybody else." This is what Stone & Parker would have thought when coming up with the idea for this episode as they do just that.

i've been a fan of the series for a long time. I like it because it is a show that mimics and blasts our culture with unflinching bravery. There is no level that this show will not stoop to.
