The short version, if you are a die hard South Park fan and love video games and have been hoping for the ultimate South Park video game to emerge - hope no further that moment has arrived. Buy this game.

The slightly longer version.

South Park for almost 20 years has been a consistent purveyor of pop culture since it first aired. Offering up a dose of comedy via cardboard cut out cartoon characters that have found a way to tackle every issue imaginable in a funny and sometimes perverse way without overreaching it's boundaries of leaning one way or another to poke fun at both sides.

Since that time there have been many video games that have tried to capture the essence of the show to allow fans another way to connect, and each one has failed miserably being nothing more then a cheap nod to the show we've come to love. Until now.

South Park: The Stick of Truth has managed to pull off the miracle of presenting a game so rich in South Park lore that at times you will forget you are playing a game and truly feel like you are part of an episode which is exactly what Trey and Matt had wanted from the get go. Every aspect of the games artistic design screams classic South Park and there is not one point in the game where you are taken out of that experience. It's the little things that matter.

The amount of nods to past episodes is going to please even the most die hard fan and will still provide hours of entertainment to anyone who is just along for the ride to watch someone else play the game for the sheer comedy value it provides.

Gameplay wise this is a standard meat and potatoes turned based RPG game on the surface that allows you to rank up your character and last about 14 hours give or take.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare, flawless, and, um...full of flaws March 6, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
First, lets appreciate that the show's creators (who have been the indispensable core of each episode's creation) were highly involved in this (unlike all the other games). The feel, look, and writing of South Park are captured better than any other licensed game (of any sort) has ever managed to do. The production values are so high (I mean, I guess)! I love it! But I don't expect the creators to make another one. This is probably all we'll ever get, and I would still be giving it 5 stars if it never dared to aim so high.

That being said, there are plenty of little flaws and missteps you'll spot along the way. It almost feels wrong to complain, knowing what a rare thing we've got here. But it feels like an even greater version of this game was so close... Anyway, how about a few spoiler-free bullet points I think might be helpful?

-Feel free to explore the town early on. Much of what's out there seems meant for low level characters.

-You can use any gear, regardless of class.
--Oh, and there is a TON of it!
---You won't have time to use even half of it.
-----And it's so cool that this will make you a little sad
-------Or a lot sad. I don't know how delicate you are

-When it comes to dressing, you can probably go for fashion above function
--I fussed over it so much throughout the game
---But later in the game, I tried without armor and had no trouble

-the "junk" you find has no use
--I only say that because I collected a lot of junk that looked like it might be used for a crafting system
---...if only

-for some strange reason, the lowest level potions are almost always enough to get the job done
--oh, and don't be afraid to use them
---you can only carry 10(!

5.0 out of 5 stars A game that finally gets it right!!!!! March 5, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Standard
Before you read this, ask yourself do you remember the last South Park game? The one with you running around shooting turkeys? Also, can you remember the last time Obsidian released a game that was as good as Fallout?
Ok now those questions are out of the way, let’s talk about South Park: The Stick of Truth. To get straight to the point, after so many delays, this game truly delivers in ways that most games licensed on TV shows or movies usually don’t. Quite frankly, if you have never followed South Park in the 17 years that it’s been on the air, this isn’t for you and it’s rare to find a gamer or a follower of geek culture who hasn’t followed it at some point.
As many of you already know, you play as ‘the new kid’ in your quest to defeat the ‘drow elves’ who have stolen the titular object from Cartman, the Grand Wizard of the Kingdom of Kupa Keep, also known as the KKK. Yes, you read that correctly. So your quest is to go out and recover the stick with help from the South Park gang.
The game feels like a long version of a South Park episode which surprisingly, never gets old. My biggest fear was 3 hrs in you would start to hear some of the same tired jokes but if anything, you are still discovering new locations and characters as well as learning new mechanics. I really loved the fact that no matter where you go in the game, you can find something that has been a part of the South Park lore even from its inception whether it be an item you can sell or something you can use such as chin-balls, the Okama Gamesphere and even cheesy poofs. It’s really one of those times where you can say if it’s in the show, it’s in the game.
As far as the gameplay is concerned, South Park plays out similar to a JRPG just more coherent.
