As someone whose books threaten to take over the house, I am always in need of new and inexpensive shelving. This bookcase more than filled the bill. Although it is just a basic three shelf bookcase, it is sturdy, attractively painted, and holds a good number of books and magazine, including the oversized versions.

This is a nice, classic bookcase once it's put together, but read the directions through twice before you start putting it together and make sure you know what goes where. I made several minor mistakes which I regret while I was putting the bookcase together. It's functional, and it's still sturdy but I ended up with some cosmetic differences and an extra piece because the instructions were a bit confusing. I guess I got spoiled on the nice, clear instructions from Ikea. That's the only reason I'm taking a star off, and if you read the instructions through carefully you'll end up with a great bookcase with little effort.

This piece is packaged real well for shipping and arrived without a scratch. Instructions are easy to follow and looks elegant with the thicker top and bottom front pieces. Would surely recommend it.

I can't comment on how difficult it is to put together because I have difficulty tying my shoes. The person who helped me put it together says it wasn't that bad. The back of the bookcase is pretty flimsy, but this is an inexpensive piece of furniture, so I think that's acceptable.

There isn't much too this bookshelf, but that's part of the appeal. It's relatively simple to assemble (took me about 20-30 minutes), and it looks exactly as the picture suggests. Strangely, one step in the instructions asks you to mount/attach the shelf to the wall, presumably to add stability to prevent it from getting too top-heavy and tilting forward. I didn't install it to the wall and have no qualms with the stability. It's a great shelf and goes well in almost any setting. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a simple and affordable bookcase.

Because of prior experiences in the past, I was hesitant about buying furniture online that had to be assembled at home. However, I needed to save a little money to remodel my daughter's entire bedroom, so I took a chance on the Step One Collection. I bought six pieces of South Shore's Step One Collection. Not only was I pleased with the quality, but this furniture was very easy to put together. The instructions were complete and easy to understand and all the pieces fit together with ease and precision. Additional little extras like drawer stabalizers and markings to make assembly easier really made a difference. I bought a seventh piece from another company (Overstock) because South Shore did not have the desk I wanted, and, as with my prior experiences, the Overstock purchase was a disaster. I am extremely impressed with South Shore's important attention to detail and very happy with the overall products. I highly recommend their furniture. Thank you Amazon for making this company's products available on your site. Definiately a great buy!

This was a great find for a great price. My husband is obsessed with all things black and this worked. This is in the home office. We have black and white framed prints and it all blends nice. He said it was easy to put together. I am happy with how it turned out. Great find.

This product was very easy to assemble. It was sturdy once put together. My only problem was that a corner was dented and chipped when I received the item. I used a little black touchup paint to cover this up. For the money, I couldn't find a better book shelf. I would recommend this for someone looking to get a nice looking book shelf for a cheap price. Hopefully our product flaw is somoething that doesn't happen too often. I would have gave 5 stars had there not been a chip in the wood.

Came well packed. Cheaply made and looks very cheap. The unit I got wasn't painted as some reviewers have said. It's made of particle board covered with black vinyl. The edges don't line up properly.

It's cheap and looks it. I would rather spend a little more and get a better looking unit.

Wouldn't buy again.
