Amazon.com Product Description

South Shore Furniture’s Squared Collection Computer Center includes about everything a person could want in a desk. Brimming with storage options, the 63-inch desk’s hutch alone offers four various sized shelves, a black 18-CD rack, and a small cabinet. Aside from these compartments, the hutch is open backed except for two kick plates connecting the end panels at the top and bottom of the open area. The open space proffers space for a 19-inch desktop computer monitor, in addition to enabling discrete cable passage to a power outlet, or computer accessories like a CPU tower, keyboard, and printer. Facing the split-level desktop, the computer sits on the right side, with a 26-by-15-inch keyboard tray and a partial back panel with a shelf installed below. A 10-by-27-by-22-inch CPU storage compartment hides behind a door to the left of the keyboard tray under the same desktop segment. The desk’s left side benefits from a higher surface and contains two open shelves ideal for stashing printer paper, stacked atop a small all-purpose drawer and a file drawer that suits both legal and regular-sized file folders.

The Environmentally Preferred Product (EPP) certified computer center is crafted out of engineered wood and recycled fiber, with a regal cherry finish. The drawers, CPU door, and hutch storage compartment all share the same sleek metal loop handles, and both drawers and the keyboard tray roll out smoothly on patented metal slides with safety stops to prevent over extension. This unit requires home assembly. Wipe the desk clean with a damp cloth, avoiding ammonia-based cleansers which cause the finish to deteriorate. Shipped in two boxes, a limited five-year warranty covers this item. The assembled computer center measures 58 inches high by 30 inches deep by 63 inches high and weighs 201 pounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great desk however there are a few flaws, September 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: South Shore Furniture Squared Collection Computer Center, Royal Cherry (Kitchen)
Let's start with the bad and get that out of the way...
1. There were areas that needed structure support because the screws were not enough
2. Where the desk joins, metal brackets were used on the inside to ensure there is ample support.
3. For the base, some areas that required screws needed more support as there was not enough or the screws did not work. That was fixed by an extra screw here or there.
4. Lastly, when it came to one of the drawers a roller was missing so I had to order one from the manufacture rather than hunt around town. Luckily, they are very quick at sending things so I hope to be seeing it very soon.

Now for the good...

1. The desk is huge! There is more room on the top part of the desk then I ever could of visualized.
2. The keyboard area fits a keyboard, a mouse, and a decent size mouse pad. I will eventually get a keyboard pad as that will fit on it for my wrist support.
3. The drawers are huge! I was amazed at the amount of space that is in the file section and the other drawer.
4. I had to look twice at the deepness on the other two sections because that is a lot and it fits office documents and the the second shelf (the pull out) has a small stack of writing paper which I can remove or just leave there.
5. I currently have the top part open and will most likely leave it as is.
6. I set up all of my speakers so they are in four corners. One on the upper part of the desk, one on the lower part near my monitor, and the other two are on the very top of the hutch.
7. As for the hutch, WOW! That's all I can say regarding it. I'm still in awe with the space that is open for storage.
8. The cubby storage with the door is really convenient then the cd storage is great. I like the cubby next to it as I have my favorite books and a few personal items for show.
9. The first short cubby has tissues and my cell phone which is very convenient.
10.The cubby next to it has three candles for decor.
11.The long cubby at the top is for my doctorate legal pads that I'm constantly grabbing. Oh, in the corner of the desk before it raises to the higher level, I have been keeping my doctorate books that are being used for the term and it works well as I can stand them up without needing a bookend.
12. It fits my desktop tower no problem since I need to stand it up. I can close it and you wouldn't know.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice looking, be careful with finish, October 8, 2010

This review is from: South Shore Furniture Squared Collection Computer Center, Royal Cherry (Kitchen)
Do I like the desk? Yes. Is it perfect? No, what is? Lovely color and finish. I found that it was being abraded away on the keyboard by the optical mouse I was using in less than a week. I got a mouse pad as well as one of those huge calendars to lay on the desk as a place to do anything that might rough it up. Some tiny chips out of the sides of some of the pieces. Not too bad but noticeable after assembly til I used a rub in stain of the same color on them and after ten min, rubbed it off well. You can't see them any more. I think I will keep that bottle with a few q tips and cotton balls in the upper left cupboard.

Huge desk space, designed for a left hander. You may want to make a few hole and get some grommets at the hardware store so you can create a bit more airflow around the computer in its cubby. It needs one in the desk surface too so you can run cords through more discreetly.

There are 3 big screws that hold the top on the bottom. This is enough for a desk that goes nowhere without removing the hutch first. It is a bit tippy if you are moving the desk as one unit. The instructions have you doing things like inserting all of the hardware in one step even if you set some aside then and use them later. It is a good idea to do it their way because missing one peg and noticing after you have put something else together that needs a peg to keep it stable is a pain. You have to undo a lot of things and insert it after the fact. I did this. :) They do have a reason for the order instructions are in. Pictures are not all that great in the instructions but figure-outable. They mean what they say when it tells you it's a two man job.

Drawers are roomy though the hardware for hanging files was so rinky I decided to use my old file cabinet instead. The screws for attaching the slides on the drawers are just a bit big on the top so at least on mine, one drawer was either sticking mid slide or not closing. Reefing on the screw to get it in that last little bit helped some. I am not planning on removing them so am just going to grind them down flatter and that should solve the problem.

I tossed the CD/DVD holders. It is a nice cubbyhole for keeping stuff in and the holders waste that space. I am either going to darken the holes for screwing them in or find some kind of ornament on a pin that fits in the holes so it looks good. Loads of vertical storage and good space for a printer. I have a graphics tablet I use and have laid it on a square of felt so when I slide it over it wont scratch the desk. If this desk has an issue under warranty you can always replace the desktop or keyboard drawer I suppose. They sent me a piece of the hinge hardware that I mangled accidently to replace it for free.

It definitely classes up the place. Ergonomically, it works well for me. I was torn between the two colors and picked the darker one. It shows dust more, but accidental marker marks less. The interior of the drawers was in the light shade. Nothing visible though is. I would get it again even with its flaws. None of them are irredeemable and for the price, it is a great deal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unhappy with my multi-colored desk & hutch, September 2, 2010

The 2 boxes arrived but becuase they were so heavy UPS would not carry them up the steps. I had to wait for family members to bring them upstairs.
Putting the pieces together was very difficult and the instructions were not clear. Two people were needed to assemble. They did it in separate rooms and when they got together they realized that the hutch was one color and the desk was another color.
I am extremely unhappy but have no idea how to take it apart to return it.
