I've been wanting to have a platform bed instead of the headboard. I found the South Shore full platform bed on Amazon.com and so decided to purchase it. It was a big package. At first it looks like a daunting job of assembling the plaform: how am I gonna assemble this platform by myself, I asked. Thank god the assembling instructions were clear and the pieces were labelled nicely according to the instructions, thus making the assembling work much easier. The only difficult part is carrying/lifting the pieces of heavy woods. Although I managed to assemble the platform by myself within an hr, I still suggest having two persons becasue the woods are big and heavy (considering the size of the plaform). I got a couple of cuts while lifting the pieces together. After the hard work, the platform was assembled nicely; it looks great and fits well with my full sized mattress. I was proud of my work and definitely very pleased with the platform. It was worth buying the South Shore platform.

The bed came tightly packed in a small box. Everything arrived fine and intact. My only complaint is that the holes drilled were slightly off and the boards were not cut 100% equal size. This is a job for 2 people so I wouldn't recommend trying to do it yourself. I used wood glue along with the screws and everything seems very sturdy, even after a few weeks. If you are looking for something cheap and easy to assemble, I recommend.

I actually read all the reviews before I made my purchase because it did not have the best rating. I noticed how a lot of them complained that it was damaged upon delivery and/or that it was poorly made and had chips and broken pieces. I gave the company the benefit of the doubt and decided to buy the platform bed and I have to admit that I am very pleased with the product. It feels sturdy, looks nice and probably is best for young adults. I do have some tips so make sure you read them all. Oh and it was delivered intact without a scratch!

1. I strongly suggest using a drill !

2. The item is heavy about 125 lbs so if you are by yourself or even with another person I suggest bringing it as close to your front door as possible and open the package there. Bring every piece to the room you will be using it in because it wont move after you finish it. Be careful not to damage the product whilst transporting the pieces. It will dent and scratch if not handled with care.

3. While assembling the bed, I suggest using wood glue for every screw and dowel used it will help secure the screws and make for a stronger, more reliable bed. Also using wood glue is good because if you ever have to take it apart unscrewing the screws wont strip the wood instead it will strip the glue a bit and you can always put more glue in after.

4. So the directions kind of suck... It says to put the platforms ( unfinished wood) on first then the railings on second (the pieces of finished wood that will secure the mattress. Bad idea . PUT THE SIDE RAILINGS ON FIRST ON THE PLATFORMS THAT WILL BE GOING ON THE EDGES OF THE BED. The railing that goes on the front of the bed, well you will just have to either screw it on manually with a screw driver, which means laying on your back, or get someone to help you lift it high enough where you can put something underneath to support it so you can use a drill.

5. Make sure the platforms all are even and use those pieces of wood as a measuring device before using the screws !

I gave it a four cause the directions suck

more than some assembly required. I bought this because I though it would be a better alternative to a traditional box spring and bed frame, but I am beginning to think otherwise. It took four hours to assemble, and the quality is not nearly what I expected. Cheap wood, flimsy when put together, and not easy to assemble where you plan on putting it, but you can not easily move it once it is assembled because it is so flimsy. be cautious.

Got this platform last Wednesday and the packaging had been torn open due to the outside cardboard box being too light to handle the weight of the wood inside. Both ends of the box were taped up with some of the boards sticking out of the box. After constructing the bed I found 4 screws missing. Not a big deal and was able to find substitute screws. I was at first disappointed seeing the box all ripped open and just barely together with tape at both ends, but the bed went together easily with studying the directions and taking my time. I did it all by myself in about 2 hours with a Phillips-head screw driver. I would suspect that I am not the only one that will receive this platform with the box ripped open. The box appears too flimsy to contain the wood that I guess weighs about 50 to 75 pounds if not more. Just a warning for anyone who buys this to be aware of... I would have given this 5 stars if the packaging was better and thicker to contain and protect what is inside.

I think this bed was perfect! The bed was a little tough to put together but you can't find a better deal anywhere for a bed like this!!!

Easy assembly my ass! Looks nice...seems sturdy (layed on top and rolled a bit). Planks shift a tiny bit, but this will probably be unnoticeable once the mattress arrives. As stated in other reviews, assembly would be better with two people AND watch out that you leave space on each side (you have to screw upward to fasten the molding).

Its a simple nice bed. South Shore missed essential parts and I had to contact South Shore customer service on my own to get all of the screws and the directions to put the bed together. I was disappointed in the time it took to get those items items sent to me. But once I got the bed put together I was pleased.

I was worried if it is easy to assemble after reading other negative reviews but I could assemble the bed all by myself in 1 hour. The instruction came with was not too detailed but it wasn't hard to understand it either. I spent about 10 min reading the instruction and reviewing parts in the package. Like someone else said, the hardest part was the edge of the bed. You need to screw from the bottom and which is not easy to do, but it is definately doable. The package came intact but was very heavy as it weights more than 100 lbs. I could not carry the box myself so I needed to carry piece-by-piece to my bedroom. But the Fedex guy was able to carry it into my door without too much problem. The quality of the product is satisfactory. The bed is stable and comfortable to sleep on. I was initially planning to get a bed from Ikea, but I decided to give this product a try because Amazon ships it for free while Ikea charges 70 dollars. I think that it was a good buy overall. One thing was that the shipping delayed by a couple of days because of Fedex. I contacted Amazon and they refunded me 1-day shipping fee, which I opted to.

You basically get what you paid for. The boards aren't cut to perfect length, the platform is a pain to put together without a drill because none of the holes are pre-drilled. The wood is cheap particle board. I guess after it was all together it isn't the worst platform. After having it for a few weeks it hasn't given me any problems, however the assembly was rather frustrating.
