Master painter,

I finally put this big book in the scanner because I am a huge fan of the masterly paintings of Ray Ellis. This volume is BIG and a tremendous bargain for people interested in fine painting. Most of these works are watercolors, but there are a good number of oils represented as well. Ellis did his oils in the same impressionistic manner as his watercolors. There are lots of seascapes with boats here and in a size large enough so you can really see what his brushwork was like, which is so often lost in small reproductions. Watercolor painters can learn a lot by looking at Ellis' fine work.

I bought this book knowing it was used. I was surprised however that most of the pages at the end of the book were stuck together and quite hard to separate without sever damage.

I am taking a watercolor class, and the instructor brought his copy of this book to class. I instantly fell in love with it. The paintings are beautiful, there is a bit of a story line, and the price was unbelievable.
The book displays images painted in the South Eastern United States as the authors take their boats south through the inland water way all of the way to Key West. I highly recommend this masterpiece to anyone who likes art with a nautical feel. |
