If you are studying for the enrolled agents' exam or want a basic foundation in taxes, I highly recommend this book. I have bought it for the last five years am have been happy with the contents and organization.

I don't understand why the authors of the book would use convoluted English when the same meaning can be expressed in much simpler ways.

Here's a couple of sentences from one of the first pages of the book:"A minority of states go even further and impose a flat rate upon AGI as computed for Federal income tax purposes. Several apply a rate to the Federal income tax liability. This is often referred to as the piggyback approach to state income taxation. Although the term piggyback does not lend itself to precise definition, in this context, it means making use, for state income tax purposes, of what was done for Federal income tax purposes."

Now tell me you fully understood what it says the first time.

Poor writing like this is all over the place, and is what will make you read through the same texts over and over until you fall asleep. Or, if you read it like you read any other textbook, by the end of the chapter you would forget 80% of what you've just read.

As our accounting teacher puts it, "keep this book at your bedside, so that you can get at least 5 minutes of reading before falling asleep"

This version is really annoying, it's basically .txt format and it's really hard to flip from section to section since it doesn't go by the real pages on the hard copy.
I returned it, but I might just have to re-buy it to avoid paying the extra $ for the hard copy

The book itself is good, but with me having to use it as a textbook for a class, it is difficult keeping up with the instructor when he says to turn to page "whatever", because it doesn't give me the option to go to a specific page number, it only allows me to go to a location. All the other books I have purchased gives that option, except the one I need the most. Very disappointed with that!!!
