Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8 Both of these books have much historical, geographical, and social information that should should be ideal reference material for students writing reports. The excellent full-color photographs and illustrations combined with a compact writing style may spark student interest independent of required reading. Descriptions of the individual states are presented in summary fashion. Each chapter contains between two and five pages of information and illustrations. A section in each book lists points of interest that should encourage further reading and/or travel. The books include sufficient indexes, but there are no glossaries. Such words as artisan, trusty, and manipulation may require more elaboration than that provided by context. This series will complement the ``America the Beautiful'' series and ``Young People's Stories of Our States'' series (both Childrens) and the ``Portrait of America'' series (Raintree). Becky Rosser, Avesboro Elem . School, Raleigh, N.C.
