Book Description

April 1, 2000
GaiaGuides are CD-ROM based multimedia travel guides designed for active travelers. Reorganized in a split of a second the way you want to 'read' them. Quick and very visual. With reviews of recommended hotels, restaurants and activities typical to the destination - and popular with travelers. Full screen photos, huge panoramas and videos show you what to expect, better than a book or a web site could.

Don't spend days surfing the web, trying to find anything unbiased and meaningful. The guides provide one-click links to the right web site for current events or to make reservation after you found a hotel or restaurant fitting your taste on the CD-ROM.

The Southern California guide covers the area from Santa Barbara to San Diego, including Los Angeles and Orange Counties. It contains reviews and photographs of: - 110 selected hotels with photos of average rooms
- 125 recommended restaurants with menus and prices
- hundreds of things to do and places to see
- all the major attractions, museums and beaches
- four 'Day+' trips 'photologues'

PC system requirements:
- 133 MHz or faster CPU
- 16 MB RAM or more
- CD-ROM drive, speed 4x or faster
- video card capable of 16 bit 'High Color' (thousands)
- Microsoft Windows 95 or 98
- Internet connection and sound card recommended

1.0 out of 5 stars Just a gimmick, May 3, 2003

This review is from: Southern California: A Multimedia Travel Guide to Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara (CD-ROM)
The Gaia Guides' Southern California Multimedia Travel Guide is a waste of time and money. The few restaurants, places to stay, and list of activities can more easily be found in Frommer's or the Mobil Guides. There are no critical messages and I never would have purchased the disc if I knew it was made four years ago in 1999. Now I have to buy another Guide for our coming trip to Santa Barbara.

5.0 out of 5 stars This guide made me accept a job transfer to LA, January 14, 2001

Excellent guide full of pictures and tons of things to do and see around Los Angeles. In addition to phone numbers and maps, it also has buttons connecting you directly to web sites of hotels etc. My only gripe: it would be nice to be able to transfer addresses from the CD to my Palm.

I was recently offered a promotion with transfer to our LA office. This guide, a 'gift' (a Trojan horse?) from our HR, convinced my hesitant family to accept a move across the country. We are using the guide every weekend now to explore the area. The weather beats snow any time (it's January ;)
