As some of you know I am a cookbook junkie. Long ago I trimmed down my vast 10,000 plus cookbook collection (a wild guess as I never counted them all but they were in bookshelves and boxes) to a relatively trim couple hundred cookbooks. I'm always on the look out for ways to still collect cookbooks without taking up too much space. Purchasing the Southern Living 2012 Annual Recipes cookbook for the Kindle is a good way for me to collect some more recipes without taking up too much space.

I am relatively happy with the Kindle version of this Southern Living annual cookbook as I get read a year's worth of recipes at once. This is one of Southern Living's better formatted cookbooks as it has an interactive table of contents. There are color images displayed throughout the cookbook. The downside is the font is very large in the Kindle cookbook. I could not figure out away to downsize the fonts so I am stuck with large type.

The table of contents is below:

Best Recipes of 2012
Favorite Columns
Cook's Chat

January
February
March
April
May
June
July
August
September
October
November
December

Within each month listed you will find the recipes and articles for each month listed.

Some of the recipes you will find in this cookbook include:

Skillet Chicken Pot Pie

Hummingbird Bundt Cake

Neiman Marcus Cheddar Cheese Biscuits

Cracker Spoons with Creamy Pimiento Cheese

Vidalia Onion & Peach Relish (Sure wish the recipe format was better for this recipe)

Praline Key Lime Pie

Lighten Up Fried Green Tomatoes

The Southern Living Pulled Pork Sandwich

Summer Pasta

Cardamom-Plum Jam

Caramel Apple Dip

Veggie Chili

Beef-and- Black-eyed Pea Chili

Icebox Dinner Rolls

Rum-Glazed Sweet Potato Cakes

Pepper Jack Grits Poppers

Chicken Salad Pitas

Snickerdoodle Tea Cakes

Red Wine-Braised Brisket with Caramelized Onions

Carrot Cake Pancakes

Chocolate-Praline Sundae Shots

German Chocolate Cake Truffles

Other than some minor formatting issues this is a wonderful Kindle cookbook.

Recommend.

I love Southern Living cookbooks and have over 20 of them. I was hoping to add yet another year to the annual recipes collection. But this item has no Table of Contents (or index that I could find) and thus becomes virtually useless when searching for a recipe. The typical "key word" search yields so many marginal results as to be annoying. I'm sure the recipes are the usual excellent Southern Living quality. I just don't know how I will manage to find them.

I love this book in its physical form. This e-form is not good. There are no pictures of the recipes. I am going to request a refund.

Have been collecting the annuals for over 20 years, a genetic thing I inherited from my late mother.. They are, indeed, wonderful for their convenience...otherwise, I'd have never discarded those years of magazines:) Still subscribe, for the garden and lifestyle features as well as the food, but find this end-of-year collection a 'must-have' to quickly reference favorites. In recent years, however, for obviously budgetary reasons, SL has taken to including a large number of b&w food photos. This is an utter waste of page space. Understand their cutting back on color photography, but the gap would better be filled with other recipes, or their very helpful cooking/shopping/shortcut/substitution tips. Still, the bbq pork on p. 47 was worth the price of the book...mmmmmm!

Kind of hard to use the index on the kindle. Had to put page markers to locate. The book/recipes are great just maybe not in this format

Recipes are good, but difficult to find since there is no Table of Contents or index. Not very "user friendly".

I found it very difficult to use. I have several of the printed Annual Recipe books. I expected this to be laid out much the same, with all the recipes in the various titled sections followed by an index at the end. That is not the way this is. Sure, there were categories, but then you really had to do a lot of maneuvering to find the recipe desired. I was very disappointed in the format.

Great collection. I get some to give for presents every year to the delight of the recipients. I just got a request for a repeat of the white pepermint cake from last year. The directions are clear and you can make beautiful recipies that present like the amazing photographs in the books.

I love southern style cooking (I am in Australia). This cookbook has good, homestyle meals with a Southern twist. Some recipe ingredients are little hard to find here but I often find substitutes. The cake recipes are amazing. So if you like to bake this for you.
Not enough photos though, I love to see the finished product. I especially enjoy the special Holiday menu's, again there are some very interesting twists on old favourites.

A year's worth of recipes. Some updated old favorites & some innovative new recipes. It's my first Southern Living cookbook & I found several recipes I want to try. Nice book.
