5.0 out of 5 stars Recipies Like Mother Used to Make, February 25, 2007
This review is from: Southern Living: 2006 Annual Recipes: Every Single Recipe -- Over 900! (Hardcover)
Even though this is the 2006 edition, myfavorite recipie is repeated from 2001, Chicken-Fried Steak. Not only is this my fvorite food, but it was a staple in southern Louisiana where I grew up, and in my Grandmothers house in Texas. Good chicken-fried steak is hard to find. Usually it's pan fried instead and greasy and mushy. Not this one, it's breading is crisp, crunchy, and spicy.

I also notice that their Cheese Grits (two varieties) use quick-cooking grits (bad idea) but then say you can use stone-ground if desired and increase cook time to 50 minutes. Most places don't even mention stone ground grits (oh so much better) and if they do they forget to mention that they cook slower. Unless you're extremely lucky you'll have to order these through the mail - I use Bob's Red Mill.

These are magnificant books. Not only do they give you some very good ideas about how to entertain for the holidays, but they also have several decorating ideas. This year it seems that the decorations are more home made than before, so there is really no reason not to have them.

If you have one of these books, you want them all, here's 2006.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected gift, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Southern Living: 2006 Annual Recipes: Every Single Recipe -- Over 900! (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for an 82 year old friend of mine. She always received this book from Southern Living every year since 1972. This is the first year she did not receive one from them. When she told me this I knew I had to purchase it for her. I went to several bookstores and decided to purchase it from Amazon. Needless to say this book made my 82 year old friend extemely happy. I know I will be borrowing it from her to try some of the fabulous recipes myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anothr great Southernliving cookbook, December 4, 2011
This review is from: Southern Living: 2006 Annual Recipes: Every Single Recipe -- Over 900! (Hardcover)
I am a cookbook junkie & Southerliving cookbooks are my favorites....I love their dishes, recipes, tips & most of all the TOP RATED receipe section in each of their annuals. The only downside to the annuals is if you are a new cook & love photos- there are not going to be as many as you'd like.

My wife and mother-in-law really love these Southern Living Annual Recipe books. I've purchased all the annual books & select other Sothern Living books for each of them for many years. Husbands & son-in-laws, purchasing these books is a quick & easy way to take care of part of your holiday & birthday shopping. Plus the food is great as well. Enjoy!!!

These recipes are the easiest to use, the best-tasting and the most well-organized of all my recipe books. I have the entire set and use them all the time. This one arrived in "just like new" condition at a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Cookbook!, March 22, 2008
By
This is a beautiful book with all of Southern Living's recipes for 2006. You can feel assured that every recipe has been tested and tried by the Southern Living staff. Having one book with the recipes lets me now recycle all those magazines. I love the color pictures of some of the food and I love the seasonal recipes, since they are grouped by each month. Having the bonus section, which has recipes from the cook-off winners as well as slow-cooker recipes, is also a real plus. This book would make a nice gift as well. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to cook or simply sit and read a cookbook!

I order these cookbooks every year for my son and youngest daughter, who use them extensively. I always enjoy looking at them, but my son and daughter rely on them for both everyday dishes and for special occasions. Recipies are easy to follow and really offer a broad range of dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, March 24, 2008

Good recipes and easy to follow. I never miss a year of this annual book. They look great all lined up on a kitchen shelf. Makes me feel like I am a real cook. I recommend this series of cookbooks (yearly) instead of clipping them out of the magazine. I refer to them for ideas and I always find something. The annual Christmas Series is also worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK, January 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have not made anything yet, but I can tell you this book is full of delicious recipes. I know right away if I will like a book based on how many recipes I find interesting. Every page I turned I was highlighting the recipes I wanted to try. I know I am going to enjoy this book. There are not that many photos that is why I gave it a 4 but the recipes seem so simple that you really won't need a picture to figure out how it should look.
