I had purchased this book for myself but will be giving it to my niece who has moved into her first apartment. This is a very broad and encompassing collection of classic comfort food recipes ... some utilizing prepared ingrediants such as refridgerator biscuits, cans of cream of chicken or mushroom soup and one even a prepared pecan pie.

Being a "from scratch" cook it is not as appealing because of how basic some of the recipes are. But for someone wanting a good collection of the basic comfort food recipes or someone just starting out on the road to cooking this would be a wonderful addition to their cokbook collection.

This cookbook has quickly become one of my favorites of the hundreds of cookbooks that I own. All of the personal stories and anecdotes make for great reading an the recipes are simple, down-home, recipes that brings back fond memories of my childhood. I highly recommend it for the "Foodies" that you know.

We already own many of the Southern Living cook books and 8 years worth of the Christmas cook books as well. This book is a compilation of the recipes already featured in our other SL cookbooks. I guess I was expecting something else, but wasn't surprised. My husband has claimed this one as his own, because it keep him from having to pour through dozens of SL cook books looking for one of his favorite recipes, which undoubtably is in this new book.

If you like comfort food and are not a brand new cook, you probably already have many or most of the recipes you'll find in this cookbook. That said, there's a great variety in here so you may find a few new options to round out your repertoire.

The layout of this book is very user-friendly, and the photography is gorgeous. There were a few great unique recipes like banana pound cake that were worth picking up the book for all by themselves!

I make notes in all of my cookbooks so I will know what I liked, didn't like, what I need more of, etc..and this book has EXCELLENT marked on ALMOST every page! As a true southern belle, these are indeed "tried and true" recipes of the south. There were only a few recipes I did not feel appealing. Highly recommended!

I read through this cookbook and almost everything looks delicious. I have a list of recipes I want to try ASAP. I went ahead and made the sweet potato casserole last night and it was a big hit. My daughter is going to love the BLT potato salad; I think I'll make that this weekend. The only thing I didn't like was that the side stories mentioned the authors' favorite foods from the past but didn't give recipes for those dishes. It was a bit disappointing to not get the chance to taste the foods that were so lovingly described. Aside from that, I wholeheartedly recommend this cookbook.

I did not purchase this book from Amazon, but I did purchase it from costco. This book so far has been a top favorite cook book in my collection. Every recipe that I have made so far from it has been superb! I haven't just made a couple appetizers, I've made the pumpkin chess pie, the blueberry muffins, the homestyle hamburger casserole, and the farmer's scramble just to name a few. I actually just made the muffins last night and I followed the recipe exactly, and the muffins turned out moist and bursting with blueberry flavor..not to sweet! If you love southern comfort food than this is definitely the book for you, happy cooking!

I picked this cookbook up late last year when my Husband and I were collecting items and readying ourselves to start our own household. It went unused for a while, with me taking recipes out every now and again.

Unfortunately I forgot about its existence when we finally made the move into our new house earlier this year. To be honest, though, it has been a battle to set our house up and settle into a cohesive schedule- doubly so when my own schedule has been so hectic and full of life this year.

Altogether it has plenty of time tested and classic recipes, as well as modern takes on old goodies- and even a few wholly modern ones as well. At the very least it is certainly more true to the Southern Cuisine I grew up with than some of the other “Southern Cook Books” in my collection. The formatting and structure is coherent as well, which makes it very easy to find the recipes you are looking for.

As of right now it is one of my favorite Recipe Books that I own. I’m sorry to have left it alone and neglected it for so long after the final move to our own house this year. It has been wonderful to revisit its pages these last few weeks.
