I purchased this cookbook a number of years ago for myself when I was still a bachelor. I already owned a copy of "Joy of Cooking" but found that it was more helpful as a reference book rather than an everyday cookbook.

I initially chose Southern Living Cookbook for three main reasons. First, I found the pictoral preparation instructions to be VERY helpful, straight-forward, and understandable. Secondly, the recipes were usually made with items that were readily available at the grocery store. Lastly, and most importantly, the dishes ALWAYS sounded absolutely delicious! (I have yet to be disappointed.) I might add, too, that many of the dishes in the cookbook are very congenial to "doctoring" - i.e. substituting or altering the recipe to suit your tastes or health needs.

My wife and I have given this as a wedding gift at least a half dozen times or more over the years and everytime...and I mean, EVERYTIME we get a thank you card back from them, they rant and rave how much they love their Southern Living Cookbook and thank us perfusely for getting it for them. (I might add, not one of them had it on their wedding registry.)

No cook should be without this cookbook! Absolutely one of the best cookbooks ever! All the recipes are fantastic, and easy to make! Definitely on my Top-10 list of favorite cookbooks! I loved this cookbook so much, I purchased all the other Southern Living cookbooks! This is one cookbook that I would recommend to all my friends and family!

As a Home Economist who taught Family and Consumer Sciences for several years, I have had the opportunity to review and use many cookbooks. From the novice to the gourmet, this is one that NO COOK should be without! Every recipe I've tried from this book (and that is a considerable number) has been very good to completely outstanding. Additionally, it is wonderfully written with easy to follow directions and beautifully illustrated. This is a definite "must have."

I have several Southern Living cookbooks, but this one remains my favorite. It has all the essential traditional Southern recipes in an attractive and easy to follow format. If I could only keep one cookbook - and I have over 100 - this would be the one.

I love to cook and try new recipies often. I have a collection of more than 200 cookbooks, many of them from other countries. I use all of them occasionally and a few of them frequently. The Southern Living Cookbook is one of the books I use most often, for all types of foods. Even after searching other books for unusual, foreign or favorite recipies with a different flair, I find myself coming back to The Southern Living Cookbook. Recipies are easy to follow and the pictures are gorgeous. I have given this book to both my daughters, who also love to cook. Thanks for many hours of pleasure you have given me and my guests!

I love to cook and I have found only 2 cookbooks out there with more than a handfull of good recipes. This is one of them. The other is Patti Labelle's 1st cookbook Labelle cuisine. Definitly a must have!

I received a copy of this book as a wedding present 10 years ago, and I have to say that EVERYTHING I have made from the book has been absolutely delicious! I have given the cookbook as gifts numerous times over the years, and I always get glowing praise about the things the recipients of the cookbook have made. It is a wonderful cookbook, with gorgeous photos, and easy instructions.

This book is incredible. If I had to pick one cookbook that I would not want to give up, this is the one. Perfect for entertaining, as well as for family meals.

I've been using the cookbook for over 10 years and every recipe I try turns out well. It's easy to use, although it is not true that "if you can read, you can cook." You need the basics, but the recipes are delicious, and often simple.

I received this book as a wedding gift 8 years ago, and I'm still using it every week for new recipes and recipes that have become family favorites. It takes you through each step, has lots of color photos of the finished product, and gives helpful serving hints along the way. All of my friends have since ordered copies for themselves, including my mom and mother -in-law. A definite stamp of approval!! Can't say enough good things about it.
