5.0 out of 5 stars best of the pick
I went to Border's to look at all the kids' cookbooks because I really wanted to see them in person before I purchased one. Of about the ten I looked at, this one was the best for my kids (ages 4/6/8). The format is very clear and easy to read, the pages/pictures are non-cluttered, the book is hard-covered/spiral-bound (big plus!) and the recipes were very interesting...

3.0 out of 5 stars Was hoping for something more
This is a decent kids cook book but it's not much different than other kids cookbooks in terms of the recipes and menus. I was hoping the food would be more family friendly in general not just strictly "kid food" that only kids eat. 5.0 out of 5 stars best of the pick, October 11, 2008
This review is from: Southern Living: Kids Cookbook: 124 Recipes Kids Will Love to Make and Love to Eat (Southern Living (Hardcover Oxmoor)) (Spiral-bound)
I went to Border's to look at all the kids' cookbooks because I really wanted to see them in person before I purchased one. Of about the ten I looked at, this one was the best for my kids (ages 4/6/8). The format is very clear and easy to read, the pages/pictures are non-cluttered, the book is hard-covered/spiral-bound (big plus!) and the recipes were very interesting with a good mixture of every-day vs. unique foods (I want my kids to learn how to make foods other than grilled-cheese sandwiches and pancakes). The others had one or two of the above, but this one by far was the best. So this is the one I'm purchasing (and it's $7 cheaper on amazon).

This book is full of great recipes and excellent photos. The ideas are unique and practical - things that we would actually make and eat. I have a lot of kid's cookbooks and this is my favorite.

This is a decent kids cook book but it's not much different than other kids cookbooks in terms of the recipes and menus. I was hoping the food would be more family friendly in general not just strictly "kid food" that only kids eat. I'm probably being picky but I'm trying to work on my kids eating food that the rest of us eat so wanted to involve them in cooking without making things that were too complex for them. So a simple cookbook that is aimed for kids but with recipes that help move kids away from typical "kid food" this isn't quite that book.

Overall the food is reasonably healthy though :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for his needs!, October 5, 2009

I ordered this and two other cookbooks geared to the young "cook" in the kitchen. My nephew, now a teen, is challenged but enjoys being in the kitchen with his mom when time allows for them to share an activity together. As described, the book would seem to offer a simplicity of direction and attractive photos of just what one was aiming for in following the recipe. Tony is convinced that the "southern living" has to mean it's a Paula Deen cookbook; it's not, in this case, but the "southern" was enough to pull his interest to any recipes of choice. My feeling was that, among the 124 recipes included in this cookbook, there would certainly be some that he would be able to follow, thus having the satisfaction of creating something edible from his very own book.

This book was a present for my 6 year old daughter. There are easy recipes that beginners can make for themselves, or for the family. This book has given me ideas for quick, easy, healthy meals that my daughter and I BOTH like. Great way to get kids away from pizza and hamburgers, and thinking responsibly about cooking and eating! I think kids of all ages would benefit from this recipe book, including teens (might be too cutsie for them).

This is our favorite kids' cookbook (we also have Williams-Sonoma and Usborne Little Children's). We love the recipes.

When I was teaching my kid to cook, we went through any number of cookbooks for kids, plus online options. By and large, the recipes tend to be inedible or so idiotic in the attempt to pander, that I found the books ridiculous. I don't recall how we found this book but my daughter and I went right through it and I found myself actually enjoying the recipes and making them for the pleasure of eating, not just for instruction. The fish sticks, which involve making bread crumbs and which use white fish from a market, are fabulous. Anyway, I've bought copies of this book for other people who want their children to be somewhat skilled in the kitchen and they've enjoyed it too. Great book.

I LOVE this cookbook. It has so many easy recipes! Whenever you're in a hurry to make something, you can just look up something in here, and have it ready in just a few short minutes! AND there is a variety of different food, so it can be used by everyone! The recipes are great!

My 10 year old granddaughter has this cookbook and I bought an extra copy to have in my home for when she visits. She has used several of the recipes and needed minimal supervision. She is learning so much about cooking and is finding a real joy in the experiences. The family actually enjoys the end products and I will use many of these recipes even without the involvement of the grandchildren.
