I own quite a few cookbooks. Most of them, I will never use. This book, however, is WONDERFUL! This is a FULL PAGE SIZE book with a PICTURE OF EACH AND EVERY RECIPE!!!!!!!!!! I thought this book might be just full of make ahead casseroles, but it's not. Very unique and creative recipe ideas that are EASY TO MAKE and not using 25 ingredients. I even found that many of the recipes call for things I already keep on hand in my kitchen.

--in the beginning of the book it has pages and pages of recipes that are 'make 2 meals in one'. You make the main course and use it for 2 separate meals. Each entree has it's own picture, of course. For example: Recipe one has easy bbq chicken, and then recipe 2 uses that same chicken to make a hearty Brunswick stew. How cool is that?? Most people making double meals to freeze just make the same meal TWICE...not in this book, you get to make a separate meal to freeze!
--Gives tons of tips for how to freeze things properly: everything from cookies, pizza dough, fruits, veggies, dips, sauces, cakes, to main courses and casseroles.
--Did I mention EACH recipe comes with a full page and a PICTURE?
--Gives detail instructions on thawing and re-heating, as well as, how to package up things in the freezer and what type of storage to use.

Most of these recipes are very easy to follow and family friendly. These are not 'high-end gourmet' meals. If you are looking for that, this is probably not going to knock your socks off. But if you are looking for ways to make healthy, hearty, and time saving meals for the family, you're probably going to love this book as much as I do. I've already show this off to a few people, and they cannot wait to borrow it.

Southern Living is known for adding a gourmet spin to their recipes and the Southern Living Fix It & Freeze It/Heat It & Eat It: A quick-cooking guide to over 200 make-ahead dishes, follows in the footsteps of many other Southern Living cookbooks. A good example of this is the Chocolate-Cream Cheese Coffeecake recipe I prepared for dessert tonight. The recipe was relatively easy to prepare and used ingredients I normally keep in my pantry. The family was impressed with this tasty dessert, and it is a dessert I'd be happy to serve anytime of the day, as the recipe used a boxed chocolate cake mix, brown and pecan topping, with a cream cheese filling swirled into the batter. Topping all this goodness was a simple glaze. To be honest we skipped the glaze as the cake sounded rich enough without the additional glaze. The cake tasted just fine without it.

There are plenty of savory recipes and a good array of sweet recipes to be found. You will also find cookbook sections dealing with how long to freeze food, express cooking and crowd size recipes.

Lovely photos grace the pages illustrating the different prepared recipes.

Overall, this is a lovely cookbook filled with many tasty recipes all waiting to be made-ahead.

I had great expectations for this book since it's from Southern Living and they always have great recipes. I was not exactly wowed. Thought it would explain the process of freezing. And a lot of the casseroles and stuff need to be defrosted before you actually cook them. Increasing the time needed to get dinner ready on the table. I thought, from the title, it would be direct from freezer to oven to dinner table. A lot of the recipes aren't really new and lot's of tex-mex kind of recipes which I am not crazy about. There are a lot of better freeze it books out there. I don't think I will be using this cookbook much.

The review I based my purchase on raved about the full color pictures and how good everything looked. I probably won't make anything out of the book. The recipes just were practical for someone cooking on a budget here in the Midwest.

This is currently my absolute favorite cookbook. I picked it up on a whim while on a trip because I'm disabled and liked the idea that I could make cooking healthy meals for my family a lot easier by using frozen pre-cooked ingredients and meals. It more than surpassed my expectations. The tips in here are extremely useful. For example, it never occurred to me to use an ice bath to cool down soups faster for freezing. And the recipes themselves are delicious! I have not seen or tried one recipe that isn't amazing and they are versatile enough to switch ingredients around and still have an outstanding meal. My favorite is the recipe for fajitas. I'll continue to use this book and it's tips and recipes for years to come. I highly recommend it.
