No one has better recipes than Southern Living except my wife. The only thing better than the recipes in this book is the photograpy. This is how food is suppose to look. A cookbook without pictures leaves you wondering do I really want to try this dish? This book shouts "I sure do!" Though not evey entre' is photographed, enough are to make you hungry to try them out. And what good is a cook book that is never opened. A great gift for the cook in your life. No one promotes Southern Hospitality and graceous living like Southern Living. A winner of a book

I made two recipes from this cookbook the day I received it. They were both good and easy to follow. It is a well organized cookbook. Each recipe is on a full page and it has great photos that show the finished product. I love Southern Living recipes, most of the recipes use ingredients you will already have in your cupboard and they are good, easy to follow, basic recipes that the whole family will eat. Also, buying one of these cookbooks eliminates the need to keep all those Southern Living magazines stacked in the magazine basket!!

One of the greatest portions of Southern Living Magazine are the recipes. Even though I live in the west I subscribe to Southern Living Magazine for the wonderful recipies in each addition. This cookbook has combined all of the very best recipies from so many past additions of the magazine. The food, illustrations and menu's fill this cookbook with page after page of exciting and tasty dishes. The recipies are easy to prepare and each one will grace your table with a delicious dish. I love and collect all of Southern Living Cookbooks and this one is an important addition to your library.

She has been using them now for the last month and WOW! The recipes are AWESOME! My wife loves them and I definitely love them!
If you like southern food then get this book and you will be eating very well.
Now I have to find a good book on losing weight. LOL

I am a collector of cookbooks. This one is great. Pictures of each recipe and the pages are smooth. I have tried several of the recipes and have several more marked to try soon. Anyone who likes to cook would really enjoy having this book. I also recommend shopping books from Amazon.com. I have several books (bought used) and they are in excellent condition.

I bought this cookbook for my daughter. She emailed me that she had used a couple recipes for a party & they were a hugh success. She is looking forward to using more recipes. She especially likes the pictures presented with a recipe.

This book has many of the recipes my family and I have enjoyed for the past 40 or so years. I chose this book because the recipes are great, they are old-standbys and have withstood time and change. The lemon icebox pie on the cover is an example of the contents. We plan to enjoy this book for many years to come and then to pass it down to our grandkids.

These recipes won't work for your "on the go meals". Even the ones labeled fast & easy do take a bit more time. The ingredient list for each recipe is a lot more comprenhensive than what modern day cooks are working with. As an example, the Classic Lasagna lists 16 different items to prepare the dish. Yes, it sounds divine.

Most recipes have a picture of the finished product. Pay close attention to the title - 40 Years of our Best Recipes - that means going back to the 1970s & working your way up.

Bottom line, some great recipes for special occasions when you want to kick it up a notch.

Here is a little sample of what to expect - (turning the pages & listing randomly)

Vegetable Cheddar Chowder
Spoon Rolls
Chicken Cobbler Casserole
Oat Bran Waffles
Cool Lavender Lemonade
Cheddar Cheese Straws
Turkey Piccata
Skillet Pepper Steak & Rice

Yes, there are a couple of recipes calling for "garlic cheese roll"....I don't know what you could substitute for that long gone item.

If you have the time one day & want to cook a great meal, this book will inspire you.
