4.0 out of 5 stars Base for offset umbrella
Wouldn't have the offset umbrella without this base - works great! I put a little bleach in the water to prevent any bacteria or mold.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be a bit more functional
Once filled with water, plan on leaving it in place. There's no low-position drain plug, so your only option is to move it full (ugh, even with wheels it's a bear to move) or open the fill cap and flip the unit 180 degrees then rock the thing in your hands once most of the water is gone to get the last gallon or so out. Also, for $60 the wheels gould be a bit heftier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Someone got it right !!, June 26, 2007
Coolest outdoor product I have purchased in so long. Live in Arizona where the heat and sunlight short lives everything. I purchased the umbrellas and set them up, not realizing I needed to weigh them down, a few of my umbrellas ended up in the pool, with the help of late afternoon breezes. After purchasing the blow molded weights, filled them with water, and guess what? No more pool diving to rescue my cool looking shaders. I know eventually the weather will break down the polymers, but at this price, no problem.

Again, best deal I have made in so long !

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked, but is a huge ugly monstrosity, October 7, 2008

This product works as described, however, it is alot larger than it looks in the picture. It is very ugly! And for the price why buy something so unattractive for your patio area. I suggest getting the triangle shaped umbrella weights instead. We found some and they work perfectly and are low to the ground and fit in much nicer with any patio decor.

4.0 out of 5 stars UMRELLA BASE, August 5, 2009
This review is from: Southern Patio Blowmolded Base For Offset Umbrella; Green (Lawn & Patio)
First, the service from Amazon was great. The base is large enough to support my 12 foot diameter umbrella in any position, using water vs sand. Very happy about that. Don't attempt to move the stand around when it is full. the construction is not as sturdy as a free standing basketball base and damage will most likely occur. Plenty sturdy to move when half full. Really only important for initial umbrella placement. Would have gotten a fifth star if construction was heavier gage and more color choices were available.

Filled this unit with water and it worked OK for a while. Moved a couple of times and the unit cracked. Had to fill with sand to keep it functional. The unit has wheels, but once it is full it is very heavy and difficult to move. ( I guess that makes sense ) May be better just getting 4 large paver stones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great but not very pretty, September 10, 2008

This is a must for any offset umberlla and at a great price. The white color was so bright and imposing that I bought some brown spray paint at the local hardware store that is specifically for painting plastic and I painted it. Now it looks and works great! I filled mine with water (and a little bleach) so that I can easily empty it and move it into the garage come winter. It works great even in strong wind. I would recommend this product to anyone buying an offset umbrella.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's better than nothing I guess..., July 17, 2008
Filled the base with water and it works fine if the winds aren't that strong...so, my advice is, don't leave umbrella left open unattended. If a strong gust of wind comes rolling in, umbrella will tip over...mine did. Frame bent and lucky for me I was able to bend it back.

Lesson learned...don't leave umbrella open unattended even with the weighted base.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid offset umbrella base, August 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Southern Patio Blowmolded Base For Offset Umbrella; Green (Lawn & Patio)
The base performs as expected holding the offset umbrella down even in pretty stiff winds. The construction how ever had a few issues. First, the cap to seal the unit once you add either water or sand was very tough and would not close. I had to really work on it to get it to close, but was finally successful. Then, moving it into position after filling was a chore. The wheels/axle are not very sturdy and one wheel on the end bent a little making the move more difficult. Should probably put the unit in place and then fill it with your water or sand and not rely on moving if after you do so. Otherwise, the unit functions for its intended purpose very well. Just need to beef up the quality control on the wheels/axle and closing cap a little. I would recommend the unit so long as you heed the above notes.

If you have an offset umbrella, wind is your worst enemy. This base does the job: fill it with water, and forget about gale force winds. Your umbrella will stay put. A note: it's a big one, so if you aren't planning on keeping the base under furniture, you might want to look at a cover of some type, as it's hard to overlook the enormous white cube on your patio. :-)
