This is a very useful guidebook. It contains route photos, clear and detailed topos, and some verbal descriptions. Driving directions to climbing areas, first ascents and other information are also included. Both well-known and less-visited areas are described in detail. I used this book on a recent trip to Courtwright Reservoir and found it extremely helpful. The best aspect is probably the combination of easily understandable topos and photos of the routes -- many guidebooks only have one or the other.

Despite what others have had to say, I must comment that as a climber of 10+ years, this is the worst guide book I have ever used. The maps are not to scale, the topos are unclear, there is no table of contents so it's impossible to find specific areas without paging through the entire book, bolts that are shown in the book don't even exist (not that they were chopped, the authors are just morons, leading to huge runouts!) not to mention that the book is so out of date that most routes are not even discussed. Unfortunately this is the only guidebook for this part of the sierras, thus the two star rating. In all honesty, save yourself the $100. You're better off just going to the crags and scoping out routes that look to be in your range.

Great guide that includes tollhouse, squarenail, courtright, kings canyon, seqouia and all of the crags around this area. Very indepth and keeps up on the new routes.

Being the only guidebook for Kings Canyon, Sequoia and the Courtright are, this book is a great asset for anyone wanting to climb in this area. Good topo's and pictures with accurate ratings. There have been new routes since this book was published in '93, but the vast majority, and pretty much all of the classics are in this book. Climbing wouldn't be this same around here without it, so I strongly recommend this book.
