3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Disappointing !!
I am a huge fan of this writer as a rule but "Southern Storm" was not the usual gem of a read Terri Blackstock usually provides. I found it somewhat of a disappointment, I'm sorry to say. I would have given this book 3 1/2 Stars if that were an optiion. The storyline was dragging and lacked the usual snap Terri is so well-known for but I love the characters...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second book of her Cape Refuge series, October 13, 2003
This review is from: Southern Storm (Cape Refuge, No. 2) (Paperback)
SOUTHERN STORM is the second book of Terri Blackstock's "Cape Refuge" series. Blackstock is a renowned Christian writer who offers her books free to any readers not happy with her talent. During a storm on Cape Refuge, Cade, the police chief, runs over a strange man. The autopsy reveals that the man had been shot before he was run over. Within hours Cade disappears and Blair, good friend and town librarian, seems to be the only person in town worried. Blackstock entices readers with her action-packed plots, her warm natural characters and her realistic dialogue. As Blair uses her stubborn persistence to locate Cade, she is slowly drawn toward the God she wasn't always sure existed. Terri Blackstock is a gifted writer and SOUTHERN STORM is a sure best-seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, just when I thought Terri wrote her best!, April 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Southern Storm (Cape Refuge, No. 2) (Paperback)
I read this book in two nights. It would have been one but I had to go to work the next day. Terri did some real changes to her plot writing on this one, and added more twits then the windiest road. The second half was so intense your heart skips a beat and your palms get sweaty. I suggest wearing gloves on the second half. j/k.

I highly recommend this book! But only if you read Cape Refuge, you will be lost otherwise.

The worst part of this is that I have to wait a couple of months for the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Blackstock Classic, July 9, 2003
This review is from: Southern Storm (Cape Refuge, No. 2) (Paperback)
I read this book and found myself having a hard time putting it down. Terri Blackstock clearly has a knack for the whodunit, but what separates her from others is that she so carefully weaves in the faith element. In Southern Storm, as in her other works, the transformation in the lives of Karen, Sadie, and Blair are as important if not greater than finding the murderer and rescuing Cade.

I strongly recommend her books because they satisfy the reader's urge for great literature and yet he leaves feeling spiritually refreshed--as if it is not just a wasted excercise. What also is refreshing and encouraging is the way Terri deals with grown-up issues and tough life situations with grace rather than judgmentalism. In Southern Storm, you get the idea that these are real people dealing with real issues and real fears. Even the strongest Christians battle doubt and discouragment and even question the will of God. The reader feels kinship with the heroes and heroines who identify with everyday life struggles.

If you're hooked on reading, but would rather part with trashy romance novels, look no further than Terri Blackstock. It will be an experience you'll not soon forget.

I'd check it out at the library however if they carry it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise for book 2, February 19, 2006

I love books in series. Whenever I finish a book that I have enjoyed, I want more. I like the way that Blackstock introduces a few more characters in each book and gives you a chance to get to know them before the next book. Her characters are believable and I admire their "humanness" (if that's a word). She does a very good job of working the scripture theme into the books without jamming it down your throat. Her books give me a reason to pause and reflect. Good job, Terri! Book 2 is a hit with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you ask for more?, September 5, 2005

This review is from: Southern Storm (Cape Refuge, No. 2) (Paperback)
TERRI BLACKSTOCK creates the atmosphere for a fabulous second book by the last chapter of Cape Refuge. On impulse, I couldn't wait to go to the library and check out the second. Blaire and Cade are back with a romance slowly starting to unfold. But, one problem, Blaire's not a Christian.

The story begins with Cade running over a pedestrian that decides he needs to just hop in the road. But, the secret of this pedestrian will take Blaire and Cade on a scary journey. Cade disappears, and when a letter comes back saying Cade is married and is happy, Blaire can't believe it. This is the basis of the fact of a real relationship unfolding. SO, she sets out to find him, and its her courage that saves his life.

But, an ending that will leave you smiling, is the icing of the cake that Blackstock presents.

If you liked the first in this trilogy "Cape Refuge" you will like this one also. It's more of the same. I read on hoping things would improve, but this is not a good mystery. It would be good for Christian fiction readers though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Will no longer read Blackstock's books., December 23, 2010

This review is from: Southern Storm (Cape Refuge, No. 2) (Paperback)
I've read three of Terri Blackstocks books and quit in the middle of the third one. Although I love her writing style, I cannot take anymore of the biblical references and quoting of scripture. Enough already!!!!! To think Cade, in "Southern Storm" refused to develop a relationship with Blair until she came to know God was rediculous. I feel her books are a reflection of her own views, and that's fine. I will just no longer be reading them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense and Riveting, January 7, 2004
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Southern Storm (Cape Refuge, No. 2) (Paperback)
Unfortunately, I read this book before the first in the series, but still found it compelling and stayed up late a few nights, unable to put it down. Terry's characters are life-like in their struggles with faith and the difficulties that life throws at them. And like a dog thrown a bone that he can't get to, because a fence separates him from his desire, so Blair struggles between the facts and what she knows to be the truth about her friend, Cade, Police Chief of Cape Refuge, when he vanishes, leaving behind his vehicle.

He was last seen with the wife of a man that he had run over and that had a bullet wound, and then died of his injuries.

Cade's disappearance leaves the town confused and somewhat worried, until evidence points to him. Blair, one of the few who truly believes in his innocence, stubbornly pursues the truth about his disappearance, fearing for his life and struggles with doubts about the God, Cade believes in. Time is of the essence. But time is running out and she becomes desperate. Then his disappearance becomes even more complicated when he is accused of being involved in the disappearance of several babies. Can she trust God to deliver Cade? Will she listen to those who tell her to quit interfering and let the police do their work, even when she is in imminent danger?

You'll have to read the book to find out. This will have you on the edge of your seat and is compelling to the very end.
