With a Southern Touch - 3 Stories by Jennifer Blake, Heather Graham and Diana Palmer,
By
This review is from: With a Southern Touch (Hardcover)
Description from the book dust jacket:
With a Southern Touch - a trio of sultry Southern romances in one volume. In Jennifer Blake's "Adam", Detective Adam Benedict's search for a witness connected with the New Orleans mob is sidetracked by her lovely niece. Lara Kincaid is a woman who puts both their lives and hearts at risk. In Heather Graham's "A Night in Paradise", Max Wulfson is sure his grandfather is marrying a gold digger. Determined to stop the nuptials, he ends up falling for the blushing bride's granddaughter. Sparks fly in "Garden Cop" by Diana Palmer, when FBI agent Curtis Russell spies what looks like an illegal substance growing in Mary Ryan's yard. He never expects to fall for the gardener!

Three wonderful Southern tales for the price of one...not bad! I read for the fun of it and I usually look for something that is also, easy on the eyes, quick, and most of all entertaining! (I could care less about typo's proper grammer and all that bunk!) GIVE ME A GREAT STORY to entertain myself and I am a HAPPY CAMPER!"With A Southern Touch" by Jennifer Blake provided me with one really fun afternoon! "Thank You!"

Southern sweet,

I know that one of the purposes of these mini-books gathered in one volume is to showcase various authors together to try and widen their reading base, but these three writers are so different from one another that I'm not sure I would have put them together. Jennifer Blake's story Adam was totally unmemorable. Heather Graham's mini-novella A Night in Paradise, was not one of her better efforts. And then we come to Garden Cop by Diana Palmer. I thought this was one of Palmer's best efforts. Both the male and female characters were strong, flawed individuals. There was humor. There was none of the abusiveness that shadows many of her other books where the heroine is young, virginal and in love with the hero. The hero is verbally and emotionally cruel to the milquetoast heroine I just wish Palmer would write more stories like Garden Cop!

I am not fond of these books within a book. I only bought it because one of the stories was a conclusion to a series of books. It was OK but I rather resented having to purchase this way to get to read the last book of the series.

Disappointing short stories from otherwise much-loved and well-respected authors,
By Donna K. "bookcrosser" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: With A Southern Touch (Mass Market Paperback)
I was rather disappointed by these stories, and that's reflected in how long it took me to plod through this book: almost three weeks, instead of a day or two like usual. It didn't capture me as I had hoped, and I was put off by all the verbal sparring between the characters. What happened to the genteel Southern character? In fact, there wasn't anything particularly Southern about these stories except that they were set in cities in the South - I kept looking for more of the charm that the South is so well-known for. Perhaps my expectations were too high because of my past experience with these wonderful authors. I think the middle story, A Night in Paradise by Heather Graham, was the better story in this otherwise weak collection.

For the Beach,

This review is from: With A Southern Touch (Mass Market Paperback)
Three quick little reads in one attractive book makes for a perfect day at the beach. Jennifer Blake, Heather Graham and Diana Palmer each contributed a story for the collection. The stories are all different but each is light and with a southern touch. I personally enjoyed "Garden Cop" the most but they were all entertaining. Oh, and take a hint from the cover and have a long cool glass of something tasty to drink (with a touch of mint). |
