Drop everything you know about Underoath,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Southern Weather (Audio CD)
Before we get into the meat of this review, I want you to get Underoath out of your head. Aaron Gillespie is in Underoath, but that's the only tie to his other band.
This CD is great, simply put. The sound is reminescent of old Dashboard (although I hate Dashboard as a band) and maybe some Rocket Summer. The pop rock sound gives way to a mature, deeply emotional rock effort from The multitalented Aaron. Most of the lyrics are very heartfelt and believable. The 'christian' aspect of this release will undoubtedly turn some people away, and although this is sad, it's the truth. Overall a great record and a good way to spent 8 bucks.

Amazing Because It Is (to quote a song title),

With its debut album recently released, The Almost already has an enormous fanbase, most of which are also Underoath fans. For those who don't know, Aaron Gillespie, drummer/backup vocalist for Underoath (who, arguably, made songs like Reinventing Your Exit as popular as they are), is the brainchild behind The Almost. He almost literally produced the entire album himself, writing the lyrics and recording pretty much all of the vocals, drums, and guitar.
Don't expect anything like Underoath; this is far lighter, general rock with general themes. The only thing that's the same is his voice. Like most CDs, there's a mixture of great and not-so-great tracks.. However, to fully appreciate them, you need to listen to the album at least a few times before judging. There are two acoustic tracks on this album: Dirty and Left Out, and Amazing Because It Is (I'd almost call it a remix of Amazing Grace.. it features a choir XD); other than that, it's just general rock. Don't expect any screaming or hard rock. Listen to the track samples to make your own judgments.. Personally, my favorite songs are Say This Sooner (obviously :D), Everything That Makes Me Sick, Call Back When I'm Honest, and I Mostly Copy Other People. The only song that I'm not too crazy about is Dirty and Left Out; it's whiny and acoustic. Frankly, considering that the album is only 8 bucks, I'd say it's well worth it.

Wow. This is a great album. go on their myspace and listen to "say this sooner" and trust me you will not be dissappointed. if you like that song you will definitely like this cd. it is very creative, and it breaks from emo and southern rock and alternative... its very tough to define the genre because it really has a fresh sound. the best songs on the cd are "say this sooner" "southern weather" and "call back when im honest". its a pity everyone is so skeptic about this cd just because the frontman is the underoath's drummer. whatever, the guy has talent, i give it up for him. 5 star cd.

The Almost,
A Kid's Review

Southern Weather by the almost lets Gillespie put a different, more melodic side of himself on display. The hit track Say This Sooner really sucks you in and having it the first track on the cd leaves you begging for more and the rest of the cd really comes through.

Southern Weather and Underoath = black and white,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Southern Weather (Audio CD)
I'm not under 13, but whatever.
Aaron is the only orginal member of Underoath, serving as drummer and back-up vocals. If your expecting ANYTHING similar to Underoath, you might want to re-think your expectations. In my opinion, Underoath has always had amazing lyrics. Southern Weather on the other hand, is a differnt story. The lyrics are extremely vague, serving no creative purpose. They sound as though anyone who knows that 'me' and 'be' ryme, could have written these lyrics. On the other side of the spectrum, Southern Weather has a fresh sound and catchy melodies. If you like Underoath, it dosn't mean you will like this. But what the heck, life is short, give it a shot.

This is a great break from the heavy Underoath (Which I am a big fan of) sound. The fact that Aaron did almost every single instrunment on the album is quite a feat, as well. If you are solely devoted to heavy rock and metal music, this album isn't for you. But, if you have a wide variety and taste for music, or you just want to add another memoriable CD to your collection, this album is for you.

I love this band. The lead singer's voice is just so pure and raw. Love them. Listen to them on youtube & then buy this and you'll be well happy.

Aaron Gillepsie is amazing.,

okay, i never listened to christian music just because it was christian. but this album has brought me closer to god, in a positive, headbanging way. Aaron Gillepsie left Underoath for this band, and i think its a good move. he can sing just as well as he drums, and i like this kind of music better than the metalcore genre. anyways, whether you are christian or atheist, or somthiing else, this is an amazing album. I love songs like Dirty and Left Out, and Say This Sooner.

I listened to this every day for a week at my job, and trust me im not done listeneing to it. Honestly it is a very under rated cd. I think there are two reasons for this. 1. it is not very catchy, some songs are and for this reason, people stop listening to it to soon to give a chance. 2. people want it to sound like underoath, what would be the point of Aaron being in two very similar bands any way. I think this band allows him to express his talent more easily, and appel to a different crowd. I am not a fan of underoath, but i like this cd much more.
standout tracks.... 1) amazing because it is 2) Everything that makes me sick 3) southern weather 4)Dirty and left out 5)Say this sooner Notice this is almost half the cd. The others songs are still very good, and still worth listening to, honestly i don't skip any songs when listening to it. Overall a great cd, and possibly the best cd I have boughten this year. |
