Director Richard Kelly follows up cult favorite DONNIE DARKO with this epic about a futuristic version of Los Angeles that harnesses the power of the ocean to produce energy. The eclectic cast includes The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Justin Timberlake, Mandy Moore, and Janeane Garofalo. The film includes music score by Moby, as well as selections from Jane s Addiction, Waylon Jennings, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Big Head Todd, Pixies, Elbow and the song Teen Horniness is Not a Crime sung by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

El Paso and Abilene, Texas have fallen victim to twin nuclear attacks on July 4, 2005 a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions which sent America into war. The Patriot Act has been upgraded to a new agency known as USIdent, which keeps constant tabs on citizens even to the extent of censoring the internet and using fingerprints in order to access computers and bank accounts. In order to be able to respond to a newfound fuel scarcity, the German company Treer designs a generator of inexhaustible energy which is propelled by ocean currents.

In Los Angeles, a city on the brink of chaos, we follow the crisscrossed destinies of Boxer Santaros (Dwayne Johnson), an action film actor stricken with amnesia; Krysta Now (Sarah Michelle Gellar), an ex-porn star; and twin brothers Roland and Ronald Taverner (both played by Seann William Scott), whose destinies on one evening become intertwined with that of all mankind.

A popular auction site (incorrectly) lists this soundtrack as having 30 tracks. Perhaps this soundtrack was originally intended to be a two-disc set, and it was (criminally) cut to a single disc by simply dropping the second disc! I'd love to have the full sountrack, but it doesn't seem to exist. Here's the full track list:

Where's "All These Things That I've Done"? And "Tender"?

I give it three stars for the amazing "Star-Spangled Banner," but missing the closing credits song and the ONE SONG that featured prominantly in the series (movie and graphic novel)? WTF?

I have to say that I originally got this album just for the song "Teen Horniness Is Not A Crime" and believe me that's worth it in itself. I was surprised to find that the rest of the music is pretty good too. Actually I wasn't that surprised, it's a fantastic movie and should have a fantastic soundtrack too.
