Great jam in France 1970.,
This review is from: Southside Reunion (Audio CD)
In 1970, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells and band hooked up with memphis Slim in France to record this loose and rockin' album. Lots of Guy and Memphis soloing, and Guy even shares a couple of vocals with Slim.Slim fits in well with Guy/Wells' touring band and the songs give me the impression that a good time was had by all. There's a bonus song not on the original album, and a couple of Slim's minute long harpsichord boogies are deleted. No great loss. One of the better Memphis Slim band recordings from his time in Europe. You'll enjoy this one!

I am so happy that I bought this album, Buddy guy and Memphis mix it up so very well in this classic recording. You will be hooked from the first time you listen to this. I hope I can find more material by these two together, they sound like they have been playing together for years.Enjoy!

I found this album just randomly searching for some albums at my local music store. When I saw it i bought it that minute. It was the names of Memphis and Buddy that got my attention at first. But besides great names, the album itself is a blues masterpice. Great musicians, great songs, but I mean GREAT songs. Really nice overall!!

The best cut is the first. This cut is one of the verybest uptempo blues tunes I have ever heard. This statement is made from the perspective of owning several hundred blues and boogie woogie albums. As fast as this cut is, cut 9 is even faster. Cut 1 is an awesome piano guitar duet between Memphis Slim and Buddy Guy with some very fine saxophone and drums thrown in. Other cuts include Memphis Slim's very fine piano and vocals. I saw Memphis Slim live in New York in 1985 and asked him about this album. He said it was from a Dutch Company and very hard to find! Now others won't have to wait this long. |
