Blues for Ibiza,

Absolutely beautiful. Remiscent of the early days in house music documented on many of the tracks in the Cafe del Mar series compiled by Jose Padilla yet "Souvenir" sounds more modern with lots of ambient overlays. Slow, groovy, and melodic with lots of soul are the words I have come to associate with sounds from Ibiza and Jose Padilla. Its hard to find any other artist producing this type of music. Jose Padilla is in a class of his own. I've been collecting various genres of vinyl over the past ten years and this style is definitely my favorite. Forget the price, just buy this album along with Cafe del Mar vol. 1 & 3 and Spritually Ibiza if you do not already own them. This album is way better than any New Age, Ambient Experimental, or Acid Jazz in my opinion. WOW! Get the next day shipping. Its been sureal.

Truely Beautiful,

One of the main things wrong with the (music) world today is that there isn't more music that can convey the sense of peace and relaxation that this albums conveys without being dull, and uninteresting. Jose Padilla is one of the most underappreciated people in music today. He has produced so much great music, much more than is represented either here, or on the Cafe del Mar series which he produces. It really is too bad that more of his music is not readily available. If you enjoy smooth, beautiful latin flavored music with ambient overtones, this is an absolute must have.

Having become a devout fan of the ibizan-inspired "Balearic vibe" after listening to such acts as Chicane, Salt Tank, and the inseminal "Cafer del Mar" CD series, I recently decided to risk the purchase of Jose Padilla's "Souvenir"; an album I had never heard.
After the first listen I can fairly say it was one of the better things I've ever done. Padilla's album gently transports one to the white island itself; almost effortlessly. The entire CD is nothing short of musical genius in capturing what I feel is the true balearic vibe, the true sound of Ibiza. The album is awash in warm, sweeping synth strings. Trumpets, woodwinds, and an assortment of carefully selected ambient samples all fuse as one to create a chill out experience like no other. Padilla truly seems to have his finger on the pulse of Ibiza and the concept of balearic music as a whole. With tracks like the lush, soothing "I like Clowns" to the haunting, mournful "Blues for Ibiza", "Souvenir" offers a tast of the Ibizan experience without ever leaving the comfort of your living room. I strongly recommend this album to anyone who likes the "Chill out" albums, under the Euphoria CD series or to anyone who appreciates the "Cafe del Mar" CD series, originated by Padilla himself at the now legendary Cafe del Mar open air sets. This is one of the better full-lengths I own!

imagine yourself sitting in a cafe. the sea is widley spread in front of your eyes and you hear this c.d . . . from the greatest chill out d.j. loacated in ibiza comes a new master piece which continues his line from the "cafe del mar" compilations. the c.d starts with an ambient theme which implies the variable content of what to come. even if you dont know this talented artist just buy the c.d to hear "blues for ibiza" - the modern version to a groovy "betty-blue". continue with some "bossa nova" and dont forget to hear the relaxing chill out in the "train to nottingham". a rare c.d which contains all sorts of music from australlian to arabic music from progressive to trance and more . . . enjoy yourself !

A Souvenir Indeed,

Jose Padilla, for me has captured the true feeling & spirit of the island of ibiza on this album. The album takes you on a magic carpet ride in a laid back chillout/housey vibe, drifting effortlessly from track to track, melody to melody. Each tracks is a gem in it's own right, with some beautiful vocal elements intertwined. I love this album as much as i loved 'The Chillout Album', mixed by DJ Phil Mison. If you love the REAL ibiza, if you love music, if you love life - buy this album!

Like many others, I was introduced to Jose Padilla's works throught the Cafe del Mar series, but the songs on this cd are truely something else. The songs could be described by your typical definition of the lounge and chill out, but these songs are so much more. Jose Padilla is one of the first to champion the sounds that are native to ibiza, and that clearly shines through in this album.
Angela John (aka Neve) ,who many might have heard on Afterlife's track "Miracle", provides vocals for two tracks, "Who Do You Love" and "Alive". Lenny Ibizarre shares production duty with Jose Padilla on the track, "Blues For Ibiza", a track which Ibizarre also co-wrote. Paco Fernandez might be a name you are familiar with, he has been featured on many compilation including the "Cafe del Mar" series, he adds a special touch with his impressive guitar work on some of the songs, most notably on, "Close to You" and "La Mar". Phil Mison, being one half of the production team of Frontera/Reverso 68 and is most notably known for his extensive work as Cantoma, provides additional production for the track, "La Mar". All these factors come together to form a true Ibizian masterpiece, from the man that started it all, Jose Padilla. This cd is a notable key choice if you want to relax day or night, or any after hours activity that comes to mind, no matter how early or late.

I bought this CD specifically for Track 4, Blues for Ibiza. The duet between the blues guitar and Harmonica is just luscious, and worth listening over and over. All other tracks are very interesting and unique, though not quite as memorable.
