Terence Lapin has done a wonderful job in the translation of this, the original Mosin-Nagant manual as issued to Soviet troops in the WW2 and early post-war era. Lapin has tried to translate the text as faithfully as possible, and sometimes it is interesting to note the kind of language that greeted the young Red soldier as he learned about how to keep his Mosin-Nagant rifle in working order. (For instance, "Removal of the M44 bayonet, even when fully stripped, is FORBIDDEN!")

In addition to information regarding the parts of the rifle, disassembly and proper functioning, there are parts devoted to proper sighting, tips on proper shooting, cleaning, and troubleshooting. It is a thorough guide that allows someone who may have initially been entirely unfamiliar to the weapon get to know it inside and out. Of course, being a military manual, that is precisely what it was intended to do. But even a veteran collector already familiar with the Mosin-Nagant rifle will find tips and information new to him in this book.

Although Lapin is not the author, merely the translator, I felt he did a great job and deserves the five star rating.

I purchashed this book at the same time I purchashed an imported Soviet era Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifle. I wanted to fully understand the operation of this rifle prior to actually shooting it. The translation is very well done and the information is invaluable to the collector and shooter.

This manual is a must have. The manual goes far beyond just the basic information on the mosin-nagant rifles. It gives you all the information that was given to the Soviet soldiers.How to shoot,where to shoot,and the soviet rules of using the firearm.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A MOSIN - NAGANT THIS IS A MUST HAVE. IT'S A TRAINING MANUAL TRANSLATED FROM RUSSIAN TO ENGLISH. VERY INTERESTING INDEED.

Got this to go with a m44 I just purchased. Really filled me in on a lot of stuff I didn't know about the gun and how to use it, clean it, etc. I also like how it's the original manual with all of the same pictures (translated of course). Very interesting read worth the money!

This is a must-have book if you collect, shoot, or just enjoy reading about Mosin-Nagant rifles. This official soviet handbook includes all the usual descriptive and how to shoot information you would expect. Additionally, you will see sections that you would not expect including selecting targets, shooting at armored targets, shooting at aviation targets (including parachutists!)and firing in conditions of a chemical warfare attack.

Interesting perspective on Soviet Doctrine and weapon discipline. A must have for any Mosin-Nagant enthusiast along with Terence Lapin's "The Mosin-Nagant Rifle" 3rd edition.

I have the original from (Moscow Press Dated 1954) Terence Lapin's book has released me from Translating. It's wonderful the Photos are the exact same as in Original. Original Russian version is about Pocket size @ 4 1/2" X 6 1/2" Terence Lapin's book is bigger almost double making it easier to read.
Again a must have for anyone with a Mosin Nagant!

This is a must have with the other Lapin Mosin-Nagant Book. Very interesting to read. Author puts in some of his very informative comments.

I bought this after I received a Mosin-Nagant M44 as a birthday present. What a gem! The Mosin as the Russian soldiers knew it, handily translated into English. Definitely a must-have for any Mosin collector, or even just an owner who wants to know more about this wonderful rifle.
