5.0 out of 5 stars the sowing - a successful seeding of new sound, April 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sowing (Audio CD)
"the sowing" is a fantastic CD compilation released (on March 20th, 2001 - the Vernal Equinox....) by a brand new label called "Dark Seeds." The CD features ten different artists, all fresh names in the "dark music" vein. The tracks remind one of some of the releases found on labels like CMI, World Serpent, Side Effects, and Soleilmoon. "Popular" artists that I was occasionally reminded of while listening to this disc are: Vidna Obmana, Coil, Lustmord, Raison d'etre, Arcana, Asmus Tietchens, and so on. However, there is definitely an originality and remarkably distinctive style exhibited by every artist that appears on this CD. Stylistically, tracks on this release range from dark ambient to exceptionally well done noisescapes and drones. Though a wide range of styles and approaches are found on this disc, there is a real coherence and flow from track to track. The listener is really taken on a journey, an inward journey into the psyche. The sounds emanating from the CD provide a wonderful stimuli for deep thinking and creative inspiration. Dark Seeds, and the "sowers" on this CD, have certainly made a grand first planting.

Artists on this CD include: TearSong, Coph Nia, the [law-rah] collective, Nihil Est eXcellence, Haslam, Stefan Koopmanschap, LS-TTL, PSYCHODREAM, Matthew Florianz, and Mindspawn.

5.0 out of 5 stars If Hell had a soundtrack..., December 11, 2009

This review is from: The Sowing (MP3 Download)
This would be it! I frequently listen to dark ambient music to set a nice mood when I'm writing. There is lots of good stuff out there, but The Sowing is the best collection I've ever heard. Some of this music is actually scary - no joke. I have yet to listen to the entire album straight through because after one or two songs I need to stop to collect my thoughts. This isn't easy listening background music, nor is it one of those collections that could be used for your fun little haunted house on Halloween - unless it's like the most demented Halloween haunted house in history!

Seriously, whatever your reasons for listening to ambient music like this, you will be hard pressed to find a better collection than this one. Buy it - you'll be glad you did. Just don't listen with the lights off. Trust me!

5.0 out of 5 stars mislabled, November 4, 2009
This review is from: The Sowing (MP3 Download)
This collection is not by a band called Dark Seeds. It's a compilation of dark ambient. The names of the arts in order are: Tearsong, Coph Nia, The (law-rah) Collective, Nihil Est Excellence, Haslam, Stephen Koopmanschap, Ls-ttl, Psychodream, Mathew Florianz, and Mindspawn. The name of the album is Dark Seeds: The Sowing. It's an excellent collection of music, in my opinion.
