I agree that this Telenovela was excellent, but the hack job that they did to the story leaves alot to be desired. It has become more a synopsis of the full story. So many wonderful scenes have been deleted which would not aid anyone in putting the story together if they did not watch it before. I am so disappointed at the editing job. This is a mere bad redition of such a great story. Release the full version it is the least that fans deserve!

This novella was on in Spain recently, so seeing as the Mother-in-law was hooked on it, I thought that I'd give it a go. I have to say that it's up there with the best. Its got the hunk, the evil bastard, a crazy bitch, a weak willed mother, marriages, deaths, the whole lot. Funnily enough, its no different to any other soap that Ive watched, yet it had me captivated. It will have you shouting at the screen, throwing your hands up at the absurdity of some of the situations, and trust me you will be hooked. I know that people keep going on about how its been edited down, but really, how do you expect them to put a whole series on 4, 5 or even 6 discs? The series ran for months in Spain, so of course sections are going to be missing. However, this version does make sense, and nothing is missing that leaves you wondering "who's that?" or " I dont remember that happening!". If you havent watched the full series, then this will be an excellent DVD set to buy. That said, when I was watching it in Spain, I thought "God, this is boring" because as with most novellas, not a lot happens in an hour and it can be painful to watch. Also, this comes on 4 high quality, single sided, dual-layered discs and not those ropey double-sided discs. So you can just sit back and relax for 4 hours at a time, without having to get up keep cleaning the discs, or put up with it jumping or stuttering. PS. Although it literally translates to "I'm your owner/boss/landlady" here it means "Woman of Steel". How that works out, I dont know! Even in the novella, she's referred to as being a "woman of steel", so It must be some kind of slang. My only gripe is that on Disc one, the subs disappeared for around 15 mins. Other than that just get it!

After reading some of the riviews for this telenovela I had to add my two cents. People are constantly comparing it to the 1995 version, "La Dueña". The 1995 version is not even the original version, something people seem to forget. Many telenovelas are recycled every decade or so, therefore there is no need to downplay this one as a mere remake. I have to admit that I loved "La Dueña" when it first came out and I still own the abbreviated DVD of this novela, however, one needs to give every telenovela their own time..."La Dueña" was great in 1995, it is not so seen today...which you can watch in YouTube and I did, and have to say it did not give me the same feeling I had when I first watched it in 1995.
I have to say the actors in this new version are of better caliber than those in the 1995 version. And I say this regardless of my dislike towards some of the actors from the new version, no...it is not Lucero, however, I still liked their performance, because I try no to see the actor, but the character.
Some mention it is an exact dialogue copy...that is not true. Of course, it will have great similarities but there is plenty of re-write, for example, the last part when Valentina has been kidnapped, which is better written and better acted than in "La Dueña". Plus the 1995 version only had 95 episodes while this one has 142/146 depending on which country you have watched it.
As I said already, watch this novela and any other "remade" novela with new set of eyes instead of trying to compare it to older versions. With one exception I can think of right now: Corazon Salvaje 2009...trust me and stick with the 1993 version. Though this novela, based in a book written by Caridad Bravo Adams, has had plenty of versions both in movies as well as in TV, the 1993 version is the best and most beloved by all.
