3.0 out of 5 stars Decent performance for the price paid, January 23, 2007
This review is from: Spa2Go STG-1 Round Complete Spa2Go, 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
Upside: The Spa is bigger than I expected. Generally comfortable, very easy to set up (once you figure out the instructions) and as portable as promoted. Once the spa reaches top temp 105 degrees on the indicator and you turn on the blower. You get a spa experience that is as pretty impressive. The water agitation is vigorous and well distributed around the spa.

The down side: The spa has no hot water jets. It uses a blower to churn the water. The problem is the blower churns and cools the water in the process. So after 15 minutes the spa has lost between 3 and 4 degrees. By the time you go through two of the automatic 15 minute cycles you drop from 105 to about 100 degrees. If you stay in for 45 minutes the spa will cool to about 97-98 degrees and will take 3-4 hours to return to 105.

If all you want is a quick 15-30 minute experience you'll probably be quite satisfied. If you like long spas sittings or have a number of family members who want to take turns. This rig will not do the trick.

Other issues: The heating pump runs so quitely you can't tell it's on. (very nice) But the blower is loud and sounds like a vacuum. The sound of the bubbles sort of masks the blower but if you're sensitive to sound it can be distracting. I found some other reviews on the Spa2go and about half of the people complained about the pump and the blower failing. I've had mine a month so far running everyday 24/7 and so far no problems with either. The reviews also said that getting customer service or replacement parts is difficult. One person reported waiting three months and still no part. I'm hoping I don't have to deal with this. There also seems to be a few degree discrency between the actual water temp and the indicated temp... About 2 degress less by my thermometer. but I need to get another one to confirm this. Also, the material used in the cover doesn't seem to be as thick as the material in the body. Mine sprung two holes on the first day and had to be patched. I now am very carful where I lay the cover.

Bottom line.. All things considered I would still make this purchase because the price is at least a third of the cost of a typical portable spa. If you think of this purchase as disposable or a stepping stone to a better spa...you'll probably not be disappointed. So not great but for $799 good enough.

Biggest disappointment was with how Amazon fulfilled the order.. Was supposed to ship overnight. Took over a week and at least 15 calls to customer service reps in the Philippines who had no ability to contact the warehouse and find our why the product has not shipped. after One lost shipment and many frustrating calls and emails It finally made it into the UPS system for shipment... Most surprising was that I was told that if I cancel the order it would take up to 5 days to get the $799 credited back to my card.. So my "overnight" purchase turned out to be a week in Amazon customer service hell. Stresses me out just thinking about it.. think I'll head to the spa after this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected!, March 30, 2007

We rent a home and didn't want to go through the expense of purchasing a "real" hot tub and then selling it when we move. When I saw this I was a bit circumspect but I saw it on sale for $540 on Amazon and combined with free shipping I decided it was worth it.

The instructions are poorly written but the setup wasnt too painful. I only found out I couldn't use an extension cord with it after I started filling it, so I had to pump the water out and move it.

Once I got it all set up I really didn't think I would enjoy it but I was pleasantly surprised. It looks like a glorified kiddie pool. It took me about 20 hours until it reached its maximum temp. Once I got in I was hooked. It is quite comfortable! more-so than many very expensive hot tubs that I have been in. The water agitation is good and it is quite relaxing.

The biggest negative I can think of is that the temperature drops fairly rapidly. I can start it at 105 and within 15 minutes it will drop to around 100 and if its particularly cool outside (I live in San Jose CA so when I say cool I am talking about 50 degrees) it will go from 105 to about 97 in that time. It does, however, feel wonderful when there is a cool breeze. Another negative is that you cannot easily inflate it again once it is set up, for example, the cover needs to be re-inflated but to do so is a huge hassle. I also didn't realize that it would require chemicals and weekly PH testing and filter cleaning but that is mostly due to my own lack of thought.

Overall I have to say that I am quite pleased although this really just doesnt meet hot tub standards. I think I am going to get a real hot tub in addition to this or when I move but this did help me decide that I definitely want a real hot tub!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good purchase, but a few things to consider, June 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spa2Go STG-1 Round Complete Spa2Go, 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
Let me start off by saying how pleased I am with the Comfort Line Spa-to-Go! I found it on sale on Amazon & it arrived about 12 days after I placed the order, which was just two days after the earliest delivery date from Amazon. It was relatively easy to set up, though at a 1 - 1&1/2 degree increase per hour, it took over two days to reach 105 from 61. There's little mention in the manual of maintaining the water balance (Ph, Bromine, Alkalinity), and this was a gray area on a few previous reviews. You can get most of the stuff you'll need at a local pool/spa shop, or even a well-equipped RiteAide or the like. I ordered the combo-care kit via Amazon for this model, & though its a little pricey ($145 after fees & shipping), it covers all bases, includes two replacement filters, and is probably worth the investment if you plan on having/maintaining your's for awhile. It took several days to get the water balanced, but its been pretty easy to maintain ever since. The plastic smell is still there after about a month, but is fading. I'd also recommend getting spa fragrance oil (12-20 drops per use), as this helps with the bromine smell & bleachy, dried-out feel. But the real hidden cost of this unit is, not surprisingly, the cost of electricity. I waited until I'd owned & run mine for an entire billing cycle, and the results are in. I ran it non-stop (i.e., not ever unplugging it), and used it generously for the whole first month (running the jets about one 15 minute cycle a day) and my electric bill tripled. That's 3x as much electric usage. Now it'll be different for everyone given their usage of it, but your bill's apt to take a drastic jump. I'm now turning off the unit at night & letting it warm back up and filter throughout the day so its clean & hot to use at night. If I want a morning soak, I'll leave it on overnight & maybe give it a rest during the day. Also, the metallic lining on the spa cover is already torn, which I'll need to look into to see if its warranteed. All in all I'm glad I bought this, but had hoped for a review of both the chemcials & electric costs before buying it, and am offering it for others who might be curious. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Leave the cover on while using for warmth, May 12, 2007
Just used it for the first time. If you leave the mylar cover (the shiny one, not the inflatable one) mostly on the tub while you're using it, by just unsnapping a few of the connections so you have room to sit, it loses heat much more slowly - we lost 1 degree in 2 hours. Y'all might want to try that.

Other than that, it's big, comfortable, not too bad to set up, cheap for a spa. Not sure yet about chemicals or electricity bills. Ours worked fine the first time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money A Total Waste Does Not Last A Season, June 25, 2008
Purchased this product and had problems right out the box and had to have several replacements sent with no success in keeping this working at all..5 power packs so far and it still does not work. This motor is not strong enough to cope with what its expected to do. Water does not go above 96 in cooler weather and takes a full week to get to that temp and the blower blows cold air into tub so the tub gets cold really fast. After blowing up the tub liner it distributes the air uneven and all on the one side which distorts the tub a lot and was told this is a fault they see often...not kidding! The worst customer service you could imagine and customer complaints are all over the Internet regarding this company. After replacing your part they will then demand an $89.00 fee to ship out another part. Check with the BBB and see a list of complaints regarding this company and their product. Save your money on this until they decide to bring out a larger more powerful motor this will not last a season. Great idea if it worked but I wasted $800 not to mention laying a concrete foundation to place this on and all my chemicals to use it. Funny thing I keep noticing are complaints filed on websites selling this item end up miraculously disappearing so wonder if this one will remain here and if I could give this no stars I would.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!!, June 12, 2008
We purchased the Spa-N-A-Box nearly 2 yrs ago and have had to replace the power pack/motor at least 5 times. They offer a warranty, however, their free shipping offer for a replacement pack is only good for 30 days. We have had to pay their $89 shipping charge 3 times even though the power pack was less than 3 months old. Now I was told that the error message on our power pack we paid for shipping on just 30 days ago, En1, indicates hard water damage which is not covered under their warranty, even though this same error message appeared on a previous power pack, for which they honored their warranty even though we were forced to pay the $89 shipping fee to replace it. Refurbished power packs are $250, new packs are $450, approx. Neither work better than the other. Too much trouble and money for what you get. I plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

4.0 out of 5 stars great spa for the money, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Spa2Go STG-1 Round Complete Spa2Go, 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
I did a bunch of research on this spa, and read all the reviews I could find, before we set this up. The reviews were very helpful. We managed to have the perfect spot for the spa, outside but near our laundry room, so we filled the tub with hot water to start with, and avoided the wait for it to heat up. I went thru 2 hot water tanks, (put the cover and bladder on in between waiting for the hot water to replenish) but within a couple hours I was soaking in it, when outside it was in the 40's. I took the advise of one review and left the top cover on, like a blanket, just uncliping a few latches to slide in, and it retained the heat for me. Now the only problem I have is finding the ph kit/chemicals that are user friendly for the spa. Some places include it in the purchase, but I bought it thru Home Depot, and they gave me no choices in style (I recieved the octagon one) and it took 10 days to arrive. (no choices on shipping, or delivery options) But so far so good! It really is very comphy, and the jet action is much like expensive spa's I've been in.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spa2Go thoughts..., April 24, 2007
This review is from: Spa2Go STG-1 Round Complete Spa2Go, 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
I saved my money up for a long time to purchase one of these Spa2Go hot tubs. I paid over $1000 for it and since I received it, I have been able to use it ONCE. When I first received the hot tub, Everything seemed fine - except my power pak wouldn't heat the water AT ALL and I had to wait for an exchange power pak and return the original. I do have to say that the people at the toll free customer service are very good as long as you have gone through all the troubleshooting steps.

When I had the power pak up and running finally, I got to use the tub once (and LOVED every minute of it) but then I realized that the bottom chamber was not holding air. I checked the rubber diaphragm and noticed at that point that the air leak was coming from a seam that had split apart near the air intake.

Now I am waiting for a new tub liner, and hopefully I will not have any more problems after that.

BEFORE YOU PURCHASE ONE OF THESE, take these things into consideration. You have to have patience in case you have to deal with exchanging a part. ALSO, if you plan to have this hot tub set up for any length of time, and don't want to drain it constantly, you have to remember that the water needs to be treated and tested for your own health and safety. Especially with children using it.

Other than that, this tub is EASY to set up, EASY to disassemble, and COMFORTABLE to sit in. Despite the rapid loss in temperature (down to 97 within 15 minutes) The inflated sides and floor make it more comfortable than many expensive hard shell hot tubs. I just stretch out and watch the stars. It's great! (Aside from the aforementioned problems ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars LOT OF MAINTENCE IS INVOLVED, August 25, 2007
This review is from: Spa2Go STG-1 Round Complete Spa2Go, 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
I have had the Spa2go for 2 years and it still works, everything is true as advetised. For $800 it's pretty cheap for the luxury of a spa. But if I had it to do over again I wouldn't buy it. Mainly because it involves a fair amount of maintence to keep the water clean and safe. Also, I have had problems with the filter disentergrating and finding the filters locally. Also since it is an inflatable spa, the plus is it is very comfortable, the negative is you can't use choline, so it can be diffucult to maintain the proper chemisty of the water, free of bacteria. I can't say how it is on the power bill but I would be willing to bet it has made it higher. So to sum up, if you don't want to dump $4000-$10,000 on a SPA and want to experince the luxury for a very nominal amount it's great but be aware- a LOT OF MAINTENCE IS INVOLVED.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 Stars!, October 13, 2008
Spa 2 Go Portable Spa with Micro Jets / B000A0A3WK

(Note: I originally purchased the ASIN #B000VGFEPE, but this is the same product, different seller, it seems.)

I was really wary about purchasing this spa. Sure, it looks good enough online, but how often have I ordered something online, sight-unseen, and then been totally disappointed when it finally showed up? However, I have recurring back pain from scoliosis and the only things that really work for my pain are deep massages and heat treatment. A home spa seemed cheaper and more practical than continuing my weekly trips to a chiropractor, but the majority of "portable" spas online weighed hundreds of pounds, or came in eight or nine molded plastic pieces that had to be fitted together. I'm dubious regarding my ability to assemble a spa, and I can't lift extremely heavy objects, so this seemed like the best option for me. Especially since I live in an apartment and may wish to move in a year or two - I couldn't buy a spa that I would never be able to move again once it was set up in place. Plus, this spa was much cheaper than anything else I looked at online, and the company had a good return policy, and it was through Amazon. So I swallowed my worries and went ahead with the purchase.

I tried not to get my hopes up, and figured I'd probably end up being disappointed, but when the spa arrived a week later, I ended up being absolutely blown away at how unexpectedly great this product is!

First of all, the assembly is incredibly easy. You don't need to go buy an air pump - everything you need is included here. The spa has three large "inner tubes" that are blown up to form the spa wall. The bottom of the spa is also blown up with the air pump. After that, you hook up the spa heater/agitator, fill with water (you will need your own hose), and plug in. It's really that simple. The instructions which came with the spa are great, really well-written, and include photographs for every step. The instructions tell you when to plug in the spa, how long to agitate the water for the first time before adding any spa chemicals, and so on. It took us about 15-30 minutes to set this up the first time, and the bulk of that time was just waiting for the spa to fill up with water. I'm also incredibly impressed with the thickness of the inner-tube plastic and the sturdiness of the fabric cover - this thing is built to last, as far as I can tell.

Speaking of chemicals, this spa comes with a filter, but not with any chemicals, so you do have to order chemicals (and any replacement filters) separately. I ordered the Spa Combo Care Kit and am happy with it, but that's another review.

Secondly, as for the spa itself, I'm really impressed at how comfortable and elegant the design is. The water can be heated to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, which is more than enough for my needs. There aren't any raised "seats" in the spa, like the ones you see in the molded plastic spas, but the spa is extremely comfortable to sit in. I had worried that I would feel like I was sitting too close to the ground or that my weight would mean that when I sat on the inflatable "floor", I would feel the ground underneath, but this is not the case at all - sitting in this spa is even more comfortable than in a hard plastic spa, because the inflatable tubes give plenty of support but also "give" very slightly under your weight so that it doesn't dig into your skin the way plastic would.

I also especially like the spa agitators. The agitator action occurs around the wall of the spa, at the lower back level, and the agitation feels like a million little massages on my back all at once. Very relaxing after a long day, and perfect for my scoliosis pain. For those who don't like agitation, though, the spa is very warm and comfortable even without it. I can stretch out with my head resting on the top of the spa wall and my feet touching the opposing spa wall (I am 5'4") and just let the warmth ease into every joint. Some reviewers online have stated that the air agitation action lowers the spa temperature, but I haven't noticed this happening, and the spa thermometer seems to bear this out. I have noticed that after being in a spa for awhile, your body adjusts to the temperature and it no longer feels as scalding as when you first stepped in, so I wonder if this is what they are observing? It's currently summer here in the American Southwest, so I'll try to update this review later on in the fall/winter if I notice any problems with maintaining spa temperature. So far, though, so very good. (Update: Based on further observation and close watch on the spa thermometer, I feel fairly safe in saying that the spa temperature does drop 1 degree for every 15-30 spent with the agitator running. This means that if you keep the spa at 104 degrees and go in for an hour, the spa temperature will drop to 100 degrees. This is still fairly warm, but it is something to note for people who would prefer constant temperature.)

Thirdly, when the spa is not in use, there is an inflatable "bladder" that sits on the water and helps to maintain the spa temperature (and also helps to keep out those pesky bugs), plus a space-foil lined, fabric cover to secure over the bladder. The cover has elastic snaps which snap easily into place to stay snuggly on, and the snaps have extra safety locks which can be utilized if there are children in the area to worry about. The cover is extremely easy for an adult to secure or remove within a matter of seconds, but I believe would present quite a challenge to a child, which I think is a fine safety feature. I think I will buy a small pool skimmer to skim off the occasional bug or leaf that gets into the spa while in use, and I need to mark on my calendar to check the chemical levels and hose the filter off once a week, but the spa seems to be relatively low maintenance so far, for a great deal of positive value in return.

I highly recommend this spa as an affordable, easy-to-assemble, portable alternative to the other models out there. I'm certain that those other models are probably very nice and probably offer other options for other people, but this spa is definitely perfect for my needs and I'm very happy that I purchased it.

(UPDATE: I've had the spa for several months now and I can add a few more tidbits. Firstly, it is incredibly easy to move - I moved out of the apartment and it wasn't difficult at all to move and set up the spa at the new house.

Secondly, I can confirm what another reviewer said about the spa cover being susceptible to sun damage - the cover is a bit faded, but I've placed the spa in some shade now and that helps. However, I kept the "bladder cover" too tightly inflated and the cloth cover was stretched and the inner foil lining broke. It was my own stupidity that caused it, but it is about $60 to replace the cover, so I thought I'd warn everyone.

Thirdly, I can honestly say that the spa has done wonders for my back. I sit in the spa every night for 20 minutes and I've seen a huge difference in my mobility and a much lower pain. I'm totally thrilled.)
