5.0 out of 5 stars The best comic of the 80's, EVER., September 22, 2003
This review is from: Space Beaver Volume Two (Paperback)
Every story has a beginning, right? Most of them don't start with an annoying CGI character that has to play 2nd banana to a 9-year-old Darth Vader. Space Beaver, for instance, has no Jar-Jar Binks anywhere in its 11 issue run. But it's not so much the beginning of an epic battle in space, beavers and turtles against pigs and foxes (natural enemies in the wild, and of course in space, in this well-researched book...), it's really the story of creator Darick Robertson, who drew this comic book at the age of 17. Like the rest of the 80's "funny animal" books that SB was unfairly lumped into, it didn't survive the 80's b&w crunch. But it did launch Robertson into other projects, and look at the guy now...a 10 year Marvel & DC veteran, who is now drawing the amazing new run of Wolverine!

So check out Space Beaver. Vol. 2 not only shows Darick progress from damn-amazing artist to really-amazing artist, but includes 24 pages of new material not published anywhere else, all to bring the story he had to stop full circle 11 or so years later.

First Crumb, then American Splendor...when will we see "The Making of An Artist: Space Beaver and Beyond!" for Darick Robertson?

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone wants more Space Beaver., October 2, 2003

This review is from: Space Beaver Volume Two (Paperback)
It is my advice that you read Space Beaver Vol. 1 before reading Vol. 2, if only to witness Darick Robertson's progression to the artist he is today. The artwork in Space Beaver Vol. 2 is truly amazing. Shades of what will become Transmetropolitan can be seen more in Space Beaver Vol. 2, as he gained experience. It is a wonderful, and tragic story, full of humor, raw emotion, and strange twists. This Space Beaver is a much more mysterious tale then the first, and leaves you wanting more by the end. I pray that Darick will someday continue this story. I can only hope for more Space Beaver. It's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars History In the Making!, July 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Space Beaver Volume Two (Paperback)
Before there was Transmetropolitan, there was Space Beaver! See where it all began for Darick Robertson by reading how he wasted his teen years. The story and art are all there, printed on the page in glorious black and white; perfect for reading!
The best part is you also get to see new art from the seasoned professional. Sure it's silly, but at the same time, it's fun too!
